Very nice picture!
Just one question: I made a cover of the song "I See Fire" and want to upload it on my youtube-chanel and I'm searching for a picture to underlie the music. My I use this picture of you? Sure I'll credit you.Β
Greetings Nithril

the scene was amazing and smaug was brilliant only gripe is that is a wyvern not dragon
π: 0 β©: 1
Anacondaphilist In reply to vindurza [2013-12-26 02:38:18 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. In fact, the guy that developed the concept for smaug thinks that dragons with 4 legs and two wings are not realistic and that a two-legged dragon (which, as you said, is not a dragon, but a wyvern) is better. Lol
π: 0 β©: 2
vindurza In reply to Anacondaphilist [2013-12-26 03:29:29 +0000 UTC]
it dose look more realistic than 4 legs and in nature a wyvern like design would be more effective looking at bats and birds

Anacondaphilist In reply to vindurza [2013-12-26 03:42:32 +0000 UTC]
Maybe, but if it's supposed to be a dragon, make it one, not a wyvern. you know what I mean?
π: 0 β©: 1
vindurza In reply to Anacondaphilist [2013-12-26 03:46:12 +0000 UTC]
technically wyverns are dragons but they more green land and Scandinavia, what we usually think when we think dragon is the European breed four legs two wings lots of fire

Anacondaphilist In reply to vindurza [2013-12-26 03:50:35 +0000 UTC]
According to Wikipedia, wyverns aren't dragons. They might be wrong, but... whatever, it doesn't really matter.
π: 0 β©: 1
vindurza In reply to Anacondaphilist [2013-12-26 03:54:09 +0000 UTC]
by all technicality there are multiple things called a wyvern and or a dragon plus wikipedia tends to miss things either way smaug was bad ass and look extremely natural in the environment

If you actually read Tolkeins biographical descriptions of Smaug, he is described as being 'a large snake like beast rather than a dragon as we know them today' and in Tolkeins SOLE piece of art shown for smaug, his forelegs are ridiculously withered anyways
π: 0 β©: 1
vindurza In reply to A-hardie [2014-01-06 18:38:01 +0000 UTC]
this one was more of bat and Komodo dragon hybrid in it's movements and looks not really snake like

In his head, yes, howerver if you look at him there's very little difference between his hips and shoulder to his body. And his motion, he coils around everything gracefully, instead of some lumbering brute
π: 0 β©: 1
vindurza In reply to A-hardie [2014-01-06 21:40:09 +0000 UTC]
when chasing the dwarves he is very lumbering but I will give you that during the treasure room scene he is very serpentine
π: 0 β©: 1
A-hardie In reply to vindurza [2014-01-06 22:39:27 +0000 UTC]
Whilst chasing the dwarves he is also stretching himself between bridges, clearly struggling to reach

vindurza In reply to A-hardie [2014-01-06 22:42:29 +0000 UTC]
it looked more like he was jumping and throwing he weight around quite easily to me
π: 0 β©: 1
A-hardie In reply to vindurza [2014-01-06 23:44:44 +0000 UTC]
Just cause you can land it doesn't mean you can be stable when your weight is at each end of your body
π: 0 β©: 1
vindurza In reply to A-hardie [2014-01-06 23:47:51 +0000 UTC]
he was very stable in the film and dangerous he could easily move with no problem at all so I'm not sure what you are playing at

A-hardie In reply to vindurza [2014-01-07 01:00:40 +0000 UTC]
I'm just saying he more closely fills Tolkeins wish for a 'great wyrm' than a hexapod dragon would have
π: 0 β©: 1
vindurza In reply to A-hardie [2014-01-07 05:13:21 +0000 UTC]
very true he was called that but he was also called a firedrake, wyrms in tolkien were an entirely different creature from one of his unproduced works
π: 0 β©: 1
A-hardie In reply to vindurza [2014-01-07 15:44:58 +0000 UTC]
Smaug was also addressed many times as a wyrm by Tolkein, as were many other dragons.
π: 0 β©: 1
vindurza In reply to A-hardie [2014-01-07 17:45:07 +0000 UTC]
but inΒ the untold tales it was stated he started to consider wyrms differently, this getting to the point were the arguement is like the goblin and orc debacle do to continuity errors from hobbit to lotr

A healthy debate is fun. Besides, no matter what we can agree that any dragon that glows with heat as it prepares to blow fire is awesome

Yeah, smaug was pretty awesome looking. As soon as I got home from the movie I wanted to sketch him. Do you know where I can find his body concept art or something to use as a reference? That would be much appreciated, as I've looked around and only found head concept art from the movie...
