Big Bird, Planned Parenthood, NEA,.. are symbolic mostly. If we can't even cut funding to those, how can we make any serious progress on govt over spending?
Of the 535 in Congress only about 5 are serious about the budget. The rest are quibbling that our money should be mis-managed/squandered in a different way.

Conservatives can laugh all they want at this....public broadcast television is a small, negligible expenditure that benefits us in the long run. Children NEED programming with educational value if their parents are going to ignore them in front of the television anyway. Programs like Sesame Street are proven by peer-reviewed study to assist young children in preparation for getting educated, publicly or privately. Nobody minds government money going into schools, but they mind it going into television programs that are effectively a form of early school themselves?
PBS costs about as much as a couple of the missiles gathering dust in our defense system.

In fact, I saw a girl in my class who wore a shirt that had big bird on it and a sign saying "Pray for me if Romney wins."
And a big OBAMA 2012.
Also, being a founder of a Republican group in my class, I find it kind of revolting when I see my "Obama Epic Fail" posters being torn down.

Sesame Street is a non-issue, and both sides are stupid to treat it otherwise. Democrats are stupid in thinking cutting spending on PBS will be the end of it (it won't!), and Republicans are stupid in thinking cutting spending on PBS will fix the deficit (it won't!).

PBS is a symbolic cut nothing more. It makes no sense to fund something that needs no funds especially when you are broke.

I like PBS, but it's not a good use of taxpayer money to be funding it. If the American people like it so much they can donate. Appealing to emotion using Big Bird to try to sway a Election is tacky. Come on our politicians can do better. If Obama could only be honest and stick to his convictions I'd at least be able to respect that.
