This is quite a step away from what you normally draw~and it turned out so well! I'm impressed C:
The pose fits Jolteon perfectly, and the lightening is a very nice touch!

Ok, so like your best piece yet, I think maybe, you should try your hand at refining and really try to make it look polished, and less sketchy, but dear god he's beautiful.

oh my fucking god.
sammy. wow.
this is amazing. like beyond amazing. saying amazing would be an insult.
its like an actual artist hung there art in a gallery. the concept is outstanding... just how theres a jolteon in the corner is so much better than
A DOG IN A FEILD. YAY US.
i loove that lighting on the jolteon how it reflects and you made it blue. agh so awesome.
and the fur or spikes really on the jolteon look so cute. i mean i love them, yes.
this brings a lot of feelings and emotions to me, its very peaceful and calm but it has a dark side too.
i love it.
the way you put spots of color in the bg really brings it out. it was really smart to do that because its not just all black. kjdrgdh. i like how you can see where the jolteon is standing too so its not just floating on some black stuff. and the rich colors for the sky are so beautifl.
the light in the bg looks AMAZING. seriously. srsly. how its bright it looks like theres rain up ahead.
agh i wish i could draw like you.
this makes me so jealous its not even funny ;__;
if your other two tryouts are like this youll get in im sure. <3.
damn this is so awesome.
great job <33

I don't think I can offer anymore constructive criticism than WhiteWingedAnwe, but holy mother, this is amazing.

I've been lurking SROA for a while now, silently rooting for you every time you tried out, and I have to say this is definitely, definitely, definitely and improvement on all of the other work you've presented there so far. The mood, pose, and lighting on the Jolteon all work together to make this a strong piece with an interesting story - I'm left wanting to know more about this particular Jolteon, and as a result I spend a lot more time looking at this piece. <3
I really do love the lighting effects - especially the lightning around the Jolteon and the way you present the storm building overhead. I'm a little more dubious about the city lights in the background - they seem just a little too scattered about to me, and should be a little more clustered in one or two places, with a few outlying lights to imply smaller inns, homes, and towns along the way (the pokemon universe is a particularly large one, after all, with a lot of distance between even the smaller towns). I love that you have them, though - I know a lot of artists who wouldn't have bothered with a detail like that, but it really adds to this work as a whole.
I'm also rather thrilled you stepped away from tones to do this. Kudos and mad props!
My only other tip for you is to slow down a little while you're working. I understand that oekaki is a finnicky medium to use, but I think your work would be a lot more refined if you'd take just a few more minutes to look things over critically and fix any problems you might come across. There's a rather hectic, rushed feeling to this piece, and while it works in the beginning, the longer I look at this the more I wish you had paid a little bit more attention to some of the minor details - like the lake below and the very rock the Jolteon is sitting on.
The lake could use a harder line on the edges closest to us, to imply trees or buildings marring our vision right to it. The other side is fine blurry (atmosphere and all) but I would have like to see a harder edge along the side closest to the viewer. I also believe a light line right along the edge of the ledge the Jolteon is sitting on would have made this piece even better, because it would have clearly defined the end of the foreground and the beginning of the background without looking obvious (because the light should be there, with that sky so viciously bright).
Overall, though, this is a wonderfully emotive piece and I can't wait to see if you get in!
(You should have told me you were trying out again! I could've done it with you!)

Hey, it's my pleasure. You're one of the few artists I know on here who's determined to improve and willing to accept the tips and tricks others have to offer. It's a great quality and I hope you never lose it~ <333
To me, a balanced critique is one of the best comments I can ever receive on my work. It shows me that other people in the world not only admire what I have to show for my efforts, but that they believe in me enough to want me to improve. It also tells me that they see potential in me and want to help foster it.
And I want you to know that I really do think your work is amazing as is. I just want it to be even more amazing because I know you can do it.

Well, now, that just makes me feel special. X3
I just really like to see people improve; it's one of my favorite parts of sites like DA. I can watch an artist learn and improve and grow and it's such a thrilling thing. Being able to contribute in any way, shape, or form just makes it all the more fun~!
But, honestly, thank you. I'm always reluctant to post lengthy crits, because you never know who is going to be willing to listen to it and take it to heart, and who is going to try coming after you with a frying pan for even suggesting he or she isn't the next Da Vinci. D:
