Description Lingwulong is a new dicraeosaurid sauropod from middle China, with the paper posted a few days ago. It came from the Yanan formation, which is early-middle Jurassic in age, late  Toarcian to Bajocian (average ~174 mya). This makes it the oldest known dicraeosaurid, and also extends their geographic range by a large margin as they were not previously known from Asia. Besides this it is also very nicely preserved and complete, with only parts of the neck, most of the skull and part of the tail missing when the few specimens are taken together.  Going by the paper´s scalebar it is quite a large animal, maybe 18-20 m in length, thus making it the largest dinosaur of 2018 so far.

I do expect it to end up smaller than the paper´s scalebar suggests.
Because all news articles mention smaller sizes (how they got those idk, but maybe they were told by the researchers)

Very cool. I like that there's a branch stuck to one of his spikes too. It gives the drawing more character.

thank you. Such a thing is bound to happen sometime to a huge spike-backed animal that walks through a forest.
