Description A full view of the kimono i am wearing. Again, convention at Oni-con 2009 on halloween. Wearing my makeshift Kanzashi blossom set that is bobby-pinned to my head. Hair in geisha style hairdo *or trying to be geisha style* I Know i didn't put on my kimono properly.... it could have been worn so much better but with my being the only one to put it on myself... it takes FOREVER!!!! the daybefore i wore a yellow one and it took me 4 hours to get it to look the way i wanted it too. Today i spent less time... about 2 hours because i was getting sick of fussing with it and the sleeves kept getting in my way... put it simply... it was a B**** to put on.

HI! I was at Oni-2009. I was the Succbus. I so love your furisode. Are you going to oni this year?

LOL last year was so crowded it was rediculous even going. I didn't enjoy it as much as oni2008 because there was just no space and it was poorly thought out. But yes i will be going to Oni-2010. Hopefully this time i will have a table this year. I was planning on going to AX in LA but i just don't have enough leave time from work nor money to pull that off right now. Succubus? i don't remember many cosplays so if you have a photo it'd help! I dressed in kimono but i don't think i'll do it again this year... D< just putting one on took me about 4 hours to figure out how to wear the darn things. This year i'mma try to pull off an elegant aristocrate look, wear kimono/yukata once *if i can assemble it easy* an haven't decided the third. You?

lol it's cool. It takes a lot of pratice to put one on. It takes me about a hour to do it.( I've been doing it for about 3 years now) If you do need help putting one on for Oni, just pm me. I'll most like for to Oni 2010 even though it is at the same place as last year.

I'm wearing a furisode for next con, and redoing my succubus cosplay. I'm a big fan of Castlevana SOTN. I may bring a FF7 cosplay (Genesis).

XD Thanks! = = I have such a hard time putting it on all by myself. The first time I did it was decent enough but the furisode was so hard to do on my own. I'm considering wearing my Tomosode but I also want to wear a full length wedding kimono like the one I modeled back when I lived in Japan. Doubt I'll have all the materials for that though.

I haven't cosplayed anything really. XD i don't know who to cosplay anyhow. D< its back at the westchase mariot again???? = = that sucks, it takes me longer to get there then it does getting to the convention center. I'll have to book a room this time around to avoid all the driving. Bah. If i managed to obtain a table come visit! XD i haven't met people from the conventions yet.

Well, with furisodes you really do need two people to put it on. ( I never get the obi on the first shot when I wear a Furisode with it) But your furisode, kimono, & yukata you wear at Oni was Awesome.

A Wedding kimono, you're so lucky! I've been looking for one with butterflies, birds, & or fuu dogs in White and gold.

My group most likely will stay at the hotel too. We're from Conroe. :/ But one the plus side for the hotel, they have a nice exceise room and hot tub^_^ ( I skit the cosplay for the hot tube last year)

Corselia In reply to sephirothpaine [2010-05-09 14:15:25 +0000 UTC]

LOL yes! XD I quickly found that tidbit out in a jiffy. When i wore my furisode I wore is very incorrect. the Photo I took wearing it is poorly assembled. ;A; i wore the yellow kimono so much better. XD if i decide to wear that I'll definately need help. especially with the obi. I have a little manuel that shows how to fold obi but its mainly for yukata. D< once i get a manequin i might attempt a obi folding tutorial.

I think its easiest to find a wedding uchikake in either birds or butterflies. Birds are the more common motif anyway... I've only seen a Kimono bolt with fuu dogs or shishi dogs on it. and i've seen plenty of kimonos with butterfly motifs on them but not any on kakeshita or uchikake. Hrm the kakeshita i work was a crane type.... and the uchikake (which i own officially) is a crane type too. XD Wearing a full wedding kimono is not easy as it has so many layers... you really feel the extra weight!!

I haven't explored the entire hotel but i've been inside the rooms a few times due to my friend visiting from Japan. I had no idea they had a hottub area! thats really awesome. I think i saw the exercise room? I think your alot closer to that area then I am. D< I'm all the way sounth in League City. I'm like 5 miles away from Kemah and it takes me a while to get up there without getting lost. = = even tho i've made the trip a number of times i STILL get lost somehow. D< so i'mma have to make sure to get a hotel room this time around. what kimono will you be wearing? Like... whats the design? My tomosode is a multi color crane and waves motif but i might go purchase another. It is not exactly my favorite but its the only tomosode i own.

XD I like Kimono 19. I think the colors compliment very well and the red just seems to pop! Its very pretty. I still have yet to wear [link] or [link]

;A; yea i'm wayyy out there. D< takes me forever to drive to the convention. Wish they would put it in the Brown convention center. I think it was great having it there because there is so much space. Oh well... least the are around the westchase is a good shopping and eating area.

Sorry for the really late reply. I had finals the whole past week

The only problem I have with Kimono 19 is on which obi to wear with it. I can't wear a red obi since I'm a red head( I don't look good in too much red, or orange)

Well at least westchase is cheaper( don't have to pay for parking or over priced food)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Corselia In reply to sephirothpaine [2010-05-15 13:01:46 +0000 UTC]

LOL thats ok, i'm very patient!

I had the same problem with my Furisode. All i had was a fushia colored Obi and this orange one so I was very limited. Luckily the orange one worked well. They sort of compliment by the color on the color wheel.

Kimono 19 already has alot of red/orange on it anyhow. To have a red obi would be over powering. I'd say go with either a gold or a green obi. Like Pick a lesser color within the kimono that isn't red or the kimono's base color. Since the other colors are small against the red and the base color, drawing it out with the obi will make it all flow better! XD I learned that one from *Kurokami-Kanzashi (i think?)

Well the parking thing is a plus, i have to pay for parking everyday where i work so I am very use to it. There is limited parking though. The food is better in that area too and it helps that if you get bored the galleria isn't too far off. I just dislike how compact it will be.

Oh on your kimonos, I like the first one.

I tryied a golden obi with 19 but it's ok. I uploaded some pics of them on DA today. Tell me what you think?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Corselia In reply to sephirothpaine [2010-05-16 02:57:11 +0000 UTC]

The first one??? LOL;;; i should probably photograph my kimonos. Though i only own a few I need to catalog them. I think the gold obi looks quite nice with it. But if your looking for more maybe try a orange or a blue-green perhaps? i'm not sure about the blue-green though. The yellow furisode is lovely! I love its soft colors and its fan motifs! You have quite a collection of kimono and items! XD; i only have a few... i keep losing the bids! LOL. I want to purchase a katsura though so that i can display the kanzashi i've made as well as use it to hopefully do a geisha/maiko cosplay.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sephirothpaine In reply to Corselia [2010-05-16 04:20:05 +0000 UTC]

The white body one with hina carage.

You should photograph them. I bet you have some really sweet kimonos.

I still have to catalog most of my Jubans, few more kimonos, and obis. I've been moving stuff so haven't had the time to do it.

It's hard to win bides, I wait till the last min to bid. I was bidding on a furisode last night. I should have won it, but ebay was freaking slow to count my bid. [link]

Katsura are cool. Wish I had one for kanzashi display, but I rarely pay over $50 any kimono item.

Corselia In reply to sephirothpaine [2010-05-16 04:53:46 +0000 UTC]

LOL i had forgotten i had showed you the link from my photobucket! I was thinking you were looking at the kimonos i had posted on DA. All i have tho are the ones on PB. I havne't bought anymore since the last convention.

I try to bid about an hour or so left on the time. But i often lose to sniper bidders. I really dislike it when people wait arond till the last 10 seconds to bid. I often don't have the time to wait around like that so i have to place my highest bid immediately then head off to work. i can't check it at work either because we're not allowedd to use teh computers for personal reasons.

I generally like to spend within 100 because i know shipping will be like 40-50 bucks. so in total 100-150. My uchikakes are the most expensive. i bought them around the time I modeled for the Kitsuke demonstration at my old job. XD they are 500 each and i own an orange and a white. I want to expand my collection but i keep losing bids. = =

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Corselia In reply to sephirothpaine [2010-05-17 03:33:39 +0000 UTC]

XD; well i try to bid with shipping included... but the ones i want people seem to also want. I am not sure if the ones i bid on are geisha/maiko kimonos? I do not know which ones are geisha/maiko ones to begin with. oAo

sephirothpaine In reply to Corselia [2010-05-17 11:06:45 +0000 UTC]

Geisha and maiko's kimono's are one whole foot longer than a normal kimono, obi's are 7 meters long. That's 2 meters longer than normal.

Corselia In reply to sephirothpaine [2010-05-17 14:34:40 +0000 UTC]

one whole foot longer then a normal kimono... so whats the size of a normal kimono? LOL;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sephirothpaine In reply to Corselia [2010-05-17 19:32:00 +0000 UTC]

Well it's 155-160cms- about 64 ins tall - normal kimono ( Furisodes are normaly 160-170cm )( modern measurements, for antiques they are smaller)

Corselia In reply to sephirothpaine [2010-05-27 16:27:29 +0000 UTC]

sephirothpaine In reply to Corselia [2010-05-27 18:59:02 +0000 UTC]

I'm thinking about bidding on the white kimono with little butterflies, but I'm waiting for the price to drop. This seller does drop his prices sometimes when he relist.

That kimono tomesode is short, and it does have fading on the back. I have a tomesode that is 1930's that is 130cm and I can wear it. But I'm 5ft 1 at most. ><

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Corselia In reply to sephirothpaine [2010-05-27 16:20:49 +0000 UTC]

So if its antique it's smaller then 155-160 kimono and smaller then 160-170 furisode. XD I'll try to remember that. BTW found this: [link] You were looking for something with butterflies right???

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sephirothpaine In reply to Corselia [2010-05-27 18:50:44 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, size that are smaller then the modern kimono are normaly antiques. They do still make kimonos of young adults and pre-teen so also study the motifs. In Taisho era, they use Japanese motifs but done in an European style of drawing. Colors are also a good thing to look for since some colors were still forbidden to wear by commoners.

I am but I bought 3 furisode this week and I stay away from a lot of reds, oranges, and/or purples. Curse of being a red head.

Oh check out kimono 20.

XD i'll have to buy a book to help me learn more about kimonos. I already learned on my own the different types (still working on it though). OH i found this just now: [link] never seen one with a rainbow design on it. [link] this one has a interesting crest i've never seen before.

WOW you bought 3 furisode already? LOL i always limit myself to just ONE. ;A; cuz if i go anymore then that i'll spend all the money i have on kimonos i want and then i'd be poor. i'd be kimono happy but i'd be poor and hungry. lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sephirothpaine In reply to Corselia [2010-06-03 03:21:27 +0000 UTC]

I like both of them. Be careful of WW2-late 50's kimonos though. If it is a silk blend you have a risk of color bleeding onto other kimonos or jubans.

That is a rare crest. I have seen a kimono with 4 waterlily crest and the bird feathers that was cross. The oringal owner was adopted to a different family so the crest reflect on family abandoment and the other adopting. It is Realy rare to see kimonos like that.

I got a really good deal on them. Normally I don't buy that many at a time.

sephirothpaine In reply to Corselia [2010-07-08 04:28:35 +0000 UTC]

At last oni con, they had one that was red and purple from 50's that had bled red over areas of purple. During that time silk was hard to get, so they mixed it with other materials like Rayon (jinkin in Japanese) it was good until the kimonos in 10-35 years started to bled. It's rare to find on thea is red that is mixed that has not bled.

That guy in the very back corner selling all the awesome gothic jewelry got robbed of all his good merchindise!!! i felt so bad cuz my friend and i were talking to him just the day before. OMG>< I didn't here about that! I wonder if they found out who did it.

You know that's one thing I notice about security. Everyone was too buzy with the line control vs security in the dealers room. How many dealers got ripped off?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Corselia In reply to sephirothpaine [2010-07-14 09:01:07 +0000 UTC]

yep, i happened to go in there the second day and we noticed his table very bare. we had asked if he was so populare he SOLD OUT but no, he told us he was robbed. apparently two guys came in last night and raided some of the dealler stands and he got hit the hardest due to all his gothic and medieval style jewelry. he had some pretty pricy and quallity items too... 800+ dollers lost. told us he's NEVER selling at Oni-con again. Thanks theives. I donno who else got hit tho.

Well i can see how security could be needed for a line. IF people started to panic for some reason it would be like a herd of stampeding cows... people would be crushed and killed. or People are more likely to start fights and stuff. so security is needed to keep the peace. D< but the whole damn con needs security, not just the line. Dealers need it especially because there is no one watching their stalls after con hours.

Its the location. You can't possibly have a good time at the convention when everything is so limited and your literally having your feet walked all over. If they are going to have it at the hotel with such limited space as it has they need to utilize all the rooms they can possible and have things READY for the convention on top with security. and yes you would think the convention would be held responsible but the guy told me there is nothing he can have done because they didn't have security in the first place and basically it was 'his fault' for having left such valuable merchandise there. D< Totally not right. i would say it is getting crappier but i have yet to find out for this year. last year was totally not cool with AA not being ready till after 5pm that day, over crowded, theft, no securty, no parking. They should have a limit of tickets for this thing too... there just isnt enough space or parking in the hotel. If i'm doing AA this year i'm definately getting there at 5 am for parking and trafic reasons. I'll think about getting a room or not.

The owner of Oni con is an ass. I use to be friends with the son of the lady that works the art auction. I use to help her out each year too. Basicly crap hit the fan cuz I wouldn't bow down to his new girlfriend(wife now), stuff was stolen from his sister( and an obi from me but I didn't found that out till I got home), and he was disrespectful by makeing out during the cosplay. ( I don't care what he does as long as I wasn't sitting right next to him or risking getting kicked out of cosplay at that time)

I did kick him out of cosplay group since he did say that he was going to be a judge at cosplay and that he threaten my group . I reported it to Cherry(owner of Oni). Instead of investigating our claim and the links we sent, she went to "him" with our emails and gave him a copy. He did harrass one of the members (after we reported him) and then destory her website.

Oni been Crap since 2008. 2008-PCP, 2009-security,theft, and space, 2010-space and God only knows.

For work you talk to the next seniority figure. UP the chain of command type thing. D< but that so messed up. Right now the sight doesn't even show up.
