Description A battalion of blue butterflies were valiantly battling the wind the other day.  To fly was perilous and to stay grounded was to endure clods like me.  Shot taken in Hammond, Montana.

I'm slowly getting caught up.  It's been a very trying spring.  Thanks for your patience

love the word for groups of butterflies "puddling" I'm told they do this to get moisture and minerals...  this is a beautiful blue - lucky to get the wings open

Thank you Ruth   Yeah, that word for a group is unique   It's so much nicer than 'FEEDING FRENZY'!!!   These were just trying to survive the wind--and me

or "drinking party"  par-tay par-tay par-tay  It is amazing how far they go in their life span!  On the coast of CA (Santa Barbara, Ventura etc.) where I've lived, the Monarchs pass through twice a year on their way to and from Mexico...it was always exciting to go to the local parks where they'd amass in the trees!  We even occasionally found a tagged one - the tag asked for you to contact an email site in Los Angeles - they wanted to know when/where you found the tag and the circumstances (dead on the ground, smashed on the front of your car, etc.

Cool!  I didn't know they tagged Monarchs.  Must be some itty-bitty tags!

I'm not sure who all does tag them, or if they still do...Monarchs are about 4" across so the tags are maybe a 1/3" ?  Not a lot of room to write, lol.

I hadn't thought about this in a couple decades so just read up again, they've changed the method of tagging in the interim - here are a couple links...

Been feeling that way myself, though I've not got wind or trials.  I hope your summer is a happier time, John.

I understand, Tris--I really do.  Losing Zen was almost the straw that broke the camels back for me   It's getting better though...my other cat is reveling in being an only cat. LOL!

Thank you my friend

I've decided cat psychology is as complex as human.  Our little female was always jealous of Milo, the attention hog.  (He didn't seek it out, he was just a magnet.)  But after he passed, instead of basking in the limelight she became unsettled and anxious.  Now, six months later, she's queen of our hearts and happy to accept the attention that is her due.    And she definitely helped us move on, just as your other cat is doing for you.  Cats are amazing.

Thank you Dennis   I was tromping around shooting wild yellow roses growing next to an abandoned gas station when I saw them.  I don't think I crunched any but I didn't notice them until they flew up and past my face in the wind

Well, it sure sounds like the right name, Ange--I'm not sure what the proper name for them are.  There was about a hundred of them fighting the wind though.  I figured shots on the ground was as good as or better than none

Thank you
