Cute little Javert... but I can't imagine him without sideburns. I think he was born with them.
Also, I like Perkins actually has BANGS! The movies always forget it, or worse, make him balding...

OH! That's gonna be stuck in my brain ALL day, now-- an infant with sideburns-- YIKES-- I think film makers tend to forget Javert is NOT the villian, and they try to make him as 'troubled' or 'unpleasant'-- hence toying with appearances. the bangs are adorable, anyway!

He's not a villain, he's the living example of a Lawful Neutral.
Films where he's not the baddie:
1933: a very book-like one - near to perfection. He's not evil, but he indeed has a heart of wood. He just doesn't have human feelings till the end. He's married to the Law.
1982: Michel Bouquet, with a voice that makes me melt (that is, a very beautiful, velvety bass-baritone) he makes him very human, not evil at all. His only flaw is he's clean-shaven. But he makes Javert really tragic - and the only man who really cares about Valjean (Marius and Cosete don't return in this version - it's only Javert's ghost who comes to absolve him).

This is great. He looks younger, like this is before his days as the hardened prison warden/inspector. As always, you capture him perfectly, there is so much expression in the eyes...just wonderful. As it happens I just finished rewatching the '72 film, AP always amazes me in that role. By far my favorite film!Javert.
