Description
Bridgnorth Yard (Severn Valley) on the morning of September 21, 2001 with engines being lit up for the day. On the left is 350hp diesel-electric 0-6-0 shunter No. D3586, backed on to ex-LMS class 8F 2-8-0 No. 48773. In the centre of the picture is British Railways standard class 4MT 2-6-4T No. 80079 and behind 80079 is 4-6-0 No. 7802 'Bradley Manor'. Next on the right is 0-6-0PT No. 1501, built in 1949 by British Railways for heavy shunting. Known (perhaps unfairly) as 'ugly ducklings', ten were built with outside cylinders and valve gear, and most were employed on empty coaching stock workings in and out of London Paddington. Like ducklings, they did waddle!

The prairie tank awaiting overhaul on the extreme right is No. 5164.
