Description
Up on the high moorland between Mary Tavy and Lydford lies the abandoned Wheal Betsy Mine. The moor on this day in October 2007 looks deceptively benign but, having been walking and riding up there, I can tell you that the weather can change in an instant from sunshine to fog and rain. It is easy to get disorientated and completely lost within a short time.
The roadway in the background leads to a good and very popular riding stables which I myself have used. The lady who runs it told me on one of our rides that, not only is the mine itself haunted (think of the fatal accidents that must have occurred in the old days) but the area is also notorious for a headless horseman and a ghost stagecoach. The latter is probably Lady Howard and her carriage made up of the bones of her murdered husbands on her way from Tavistock to Okehampton Castle to carry out her penance.

Ah well there you are! It's all that history and sometimes violent death that people say cause hauntings. I don't know, but I stayed in a haunted hotel behind the Alamo in Texas and I had a minor experience. They say curtains get fiddled with and TVs get turned on and off there too. Thanks for your memory which was very interesting - wonder where it was?!

Yeah indeed, I've heard that too.
And ah okay, my old dormitory was also haunted, and there were stories of a cruel thing that a student did a few decades ago, and I've had a few experiences. I've heard footsteps a few times whilst no one was there, stuff being moved, electronic devices being messed with, and a girl who was really into the occult trying to communicate with the ghost/spirit.
As for the b&b, I've been trying to remember, but I can't... I've been rather forgetful lately x-x

I know all about being forgetful! Mrs Brit is always telling me off for something I have forgotten! I think it pays to be open minded about our spiritual friends. I sometime watch the TV programme 'Ghost Adventures' and 'Most Haunted' but they are a bit samey and tame I find!

And yeah that's true, and those programmes often tend to over dramatise things, like if they hear a thud or another noise...

They go in all stroppy and confident, then there is a little knock and it's "Whoa - oh my God, did you hear that, I don't wanna go first dude!"

Yeah, or they start screaming like "OH MAH GEWD LISTEN TO THIS MAN, LISTEN!! LISTEN!!! It was like a 'doop', there's ghosts here man, listen! Shhh listen!!!!"
That's why I don't really like them XD I prefer those things on YouTube, some channels there are pretty good

I remember seeing countless of those old mine chimneys while driving through the area on my way to Cornwall just a couple years ago. Definitely something eerie about them standing all about so lifeless.
