Description Hi! This is more of a list of tips than a tutorial, really. Just a guide on how to think about color and light differently and maybe improve your work.

I hope this helps you in some way! Thanks for looking!

Question: How do I get the light colors? Do I have to use layers for that?

Great resource. I don't play around with light much but this will help overcome that.

This remains among my favourite tutorials in all of DA, which I link again and again. So good.

Thank you for making this, it will help me to explain warm and cool lighting to others! Now they'll know I'm not lying!

I would like to start with digital painting
and tried to find something to help me,
so my paintings might look more realistic.
This is simply what I was looking for!

And saying that warmer colors should go to yellow, darker to blue,
is really helpful and easy to remember.
Thank you so much! Keep up.

There is a tragic lack of the explanation of color theory and how it affects lighting on this site. Thanks for making this!

This is a neat tutorial, and I plan to apply this technique next time I'm shading.

I almost missed it, because it's not in your Tutorials folder. Do you want to put it there?

Finally a tutorial that explains this topic in a practical and visual way. I was marauding around the internet to find something on this topic for ages, but mostly found textual or theoretical explanations. Thanks a lot

This is very helpful, thank you! I'm still struggling to see how color and light affects the subject I'm coloring, but I think that'll go away with more practice and helpful tutorials like this. ^^

Cpresti In reply to FyreVT [2012-07-05 00:05:19 +0000 UTC]

Totally, the more you practice the better you get! Although it does sort of drive you crazy...I'll stare at a tree and wonder which colors I'd use for the shadow and then realize... that I'm completely insane.

Love this. It's a topic close to my heart (having somewhat recently read through the whole of [link] ">The Dimensions of Colour twice and then vowing to write a tutorial or ebook explaining it in a simpler way), but I still feel like I've learned something. I think 'if you do this, your pictures will look more awesome and realistic' didn't quite penetrate until I read this.

(And the background colours are less contrasty in this one! I guess it wasn't just me.)

I'm guessing you probably get this a lot, but are you intending to do a tutorial on halftone? I love the way your t-shirts are designed. For some reason it never occurred to me to try out half-tone (even though I know it costs per colour).

Cpresti In reply to Lulie [2012-03-25 03:07:09 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the feedback! I never thought of doing one on halftone because I'm only just starting to learn it myself. I'm not sure I would feel comfortable making one because I don't really know a whole lot about it. Maybe once I feel I have a real handle on it, I will!

That would be fantastic!

In the meantime, do you happen to know any good links to tutorials or more information on it? It looks so interesting.

Looking forward to seeing more from you.

I think the tutorial turned out very well; enough detail to be relevant, but short enough to be readable. Kudos!
