Description
Papyrus is beyond dispute the single greatest thing about Undertale ever. Alas there are a few poor deluded souls who prefer the lazy slacker false God Sans but in time these few will come around to the true faith. I’ve never been a big fan of the way I draw his majesty however. My previous pictures always made him look rather bland and flat. Having recently overhauled the way I draw Sans I decided I’d tweak Papyrus a bit as well. The oversized head was inspired by Czech puppets, ( puppetsinprague.eu/articles/im…) which are great at the way they caricature particular features. I really wanted to draw attention to his eyes, to give them a greater sense of expression and emphasise his sweetness and vulnerability. By contrast I also made his body smaller and more fragile looking in comparison. Partly this was out of a desire to find a way to make him look more youthful than Sans despite the difference in height, and partly as a way to visualise his naiveté.
Another priority was to experiment with colour a little bit. To be frank my use of colour in most of my work has been pretty flat and garish, so I wanted to try a more sophisticated approach here. I layered various shades of red, brown and orange into the picture to create a richer sense of detail and give a stronger emotional impact. Hopefully it didn’t come out as a Hodge Podge but I leave the verdict to you.
All hail the great God PappY!
