Description This is my submission for the Pencil Club's famous painting contest. You have to draw a famous painting and change it to make it your own.
I chose Starry Night [link]
I decided to make all the stars alien space ships with one space ship attacking the little town. Don't know why I just felt like drawing it. Any criticsim is appreciated.

Ah, yes, Van Gogh... A classic. When I first saw the thumb, I didn't realize that you had changed the stars into alien space ships. Very original, I think. Awesome work!

I feel kinda proud of myself that I managed to recognise this as an "Starry Starry Night" before reading the description. Very well done, sir.

One thing I don't really get about this is the dark band around the weapon's impact point. Intuitively, I'd have thought it would have lit up the town, and it would shade away from it, but that's a minor detail.

Brush strokes like that are enough of a challenge with an actual brush! Doing them with a pencil has to have been a bit of a nightmare.

Overall, really cool stuff.

Thanks for the comment. The dark band is a cloud of smoke, dust and debris.

*whistles* dam that must've taken long. nothing much to say here the idea is good. i think you should reduce the size of the rest of the spaceships so they look far away and leave the closest one big to get proper depth in the pic.

Crazy-Joe-Davola In reply to darknite945 [2006-09-24 04:21:20 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the comment. I'm not sure what you mean about reducing the size of the other ships. Most of the ships are very small. Each ship is the size of the original star in Starry Night.

This is a very creative intake on Vincent Van Gough's painting. If I hadn't full viewed it and read your comments, I don't think I would of got what was going on, but it most certainly did look like a replica of it.

Looks really cool! It must've been a pain to do all those brush strokes...IMO the brush strokes don't really look good in pencil, but that's pretty much inevitable with awkward detail like that. The shading is quite good in the picture, but the tree is missing some highlights.
