Description This is a scene from the movie Fallen Angel. It is an old Film Noir. [link]
I used HB and 8B pencils. It's 8x10 and took somewhere between 20-30 hours. Any criticism is appreciated.

this really is amazing! i love the bold contrast, but it's not overdone. The fuzzy look does add that hint of "old film" feeling! good job.

That is quite amazing on a number of fronts. One, it's a damn good drawing. Two, that technique is not an easy one to pull off. And lastly, 20-30 hours? I WISH I had that sort of patience.

i like the details a lot!
And the grain and fuzziness kinda makes me think i'm actually watching the movie in a tv with bad reception

very nice

You are quite a good artist, and I live the grainy quality that you managed to capture with a pencil sketch.

I thought this was a photo a first look, very nice, the grain does indeed give it that old filme look and that is not a bad thing.

minion-for-hire [2006-09-22 08:14:25 +0000 UTC]

Wow. I'd thought when I first looked at it that it was an old-style photograph, not a pencil drawing. Extremely cool stuff.

The wooden panels on either side of the door don't quite seem to line up parallel, but that could easily be my eyes or perspective playing tricks on me, its too early in the morning for me to tell...

Adide from that, great job getting the grainy film noir look to come out. Its pretty.

My word! 0_o The details! Perhaps it was just your scanner, but the fact that your picture has no true black value hurts it a tiny bit. Oh, mind if I ask why the 'c' in popcorn looks so odd? Overall, wonderful piece!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Crazy-Joe-Davola In reply to Ligers-mane [2006-07-06 23:16:30 +0000 UTC]

Yeah the scan didn't come out right but good solid blacks are also one of my poor areas. The "c" looks odd because I messed it up. I messed up every detail really

Very good. I love how you have used the texture of your pencil to your advantage, creating a very interesting atmosphere within the picture. You've chosen the perfect scene to draw, and I'm holding my breath just looking at it! There's nothing I can mention in the way of constructive critism, apart from maybe having a nice thick black border to complete the piece, but the drawing itself is very good.
