So my one of my art professors kind of challenged me to go on ahead and make the rest of the zodiac this semester in advanced printmaking. So this is the second diptych in the series. Once again, woodcut, printed on foil stamped paper. They're the same scale as the tiger and dragon diptych (18" x 40" individually).
I'm also getting way faster at carving! They took less than 40 hours to carve!

I love this so much! The delicate chatter marks are beautiful. Do you have a method for which zodiacs you are pairing with each other?

I made the Tiger and Dragon pairing before I had the idea to make the rest of the zodiac. If I wouldn't have done that I might have paired them by opposites. Instead, I'm pairing them either by size (I don't want, for example, the rat and the rabbit together because they're too small for 18" x 40" frames), environment, or personal meaning. Later, I'm going to make the dog and the rabbit because my sign is the dog and my mom's is the rabbit.

I am so excited to see what you do for the rest of them. I love diptychs with shared backgrounds and these line up beautifully! I'm working on the backgrounds for a set of diptychs myself and you're making me wish I had done a shared background- maybe I'll do a different version once I'm finished.

The backgrounds have really become the fun part of my designs! Hopefully I can get the next two, drawn out, carved, and printed by the middle of next week! I've only got this semester to get them all done. 8 more to go. Wish me luck!
