Description "`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

As you can see, our young hero has avoided the Bandersnatch, barely, but has run into a flock of Jubjub birds. He counts too many to fight so, Vorpal blade in hand, he hurries onward.

For June place.

Nice. Very nice. Sort of fits since nothing much is described of a jubjub except its a bird.

Looks cute and sinister at the same time.

Thank you very much. I'm glad you see my jubjubs the way I tried to make them.

"He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought—
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought. "

Yep, Tumtum trees are easy, Jabberwocks aren't.

Thank you kindly. This was a tough IP month. I noticed yours as well though I may have not commented on it (I been having weird dA and internet probs lately) Loved your gas mask take on ol' Jab.

Thanks. You know, I think dA's been running slower than usual the last week+. I just FIXED my computer's major problems and this and one other site (which has admitted to server troubles) has been running slowly. ;_;

Yep, I have had continuing speed/connectivity problems with my satellite ISP. It is really frustrating to have dA go stupid on the few occasions my ISP is runnin' well.

Ooo! I forgot about imaginary places!

Love this one! The misty blur is new for you. How do you like it?

I know where you can get a jabberwock

Fine. Thank you. Ya wanna talk about the birds, huh? Do ya, do ya??? (radical bump height dispacement material on simple Vue ovals with Vue cone beaks and PS highlight eyes.)

Yep, this is my virgin run with altering displacement materials. I'll be playing more.

markopolio In reply to crossbrace [2007-07-01 15:56:02 +0000 UTC]

I've only read the manual on how-to. I didn't realize it actually acted that strongly on the actual displacement.

crossbrace In reply to markopolio [2007-07-02 14:37:48 +0000 UTC]

Well, I did adjust the bump depth from .3 to 5. More extreme than the material maker anticipated perhaps. This material started out as a pretty convincing looking black coral.

I have a friend with Vue D'Esprit. New to it. Can I send her to you for some Q&A?

So it was a plain texture with the bump boosted? Hmm... ideas begin.

Absolutely. (You know Mark how long I've worked at this trying to figure out the techniques. To be considered for even minor mentor status is a great compliment.)

I seriously don't think she'll mind. =azurylipfe She's studying it really hard. Coming up with some very nice stuff. She wanted a snail for a rider. I have yet to be able to come up with one. But I noticed that she was using Vue, and asked why she wasn't making her own. She told me that she had just gotten it, D'Esprit. And was unfamiliar with it. I told her I knew you, and that you were the go-to man on Vue! Because you are. You Da Vue Man!

Oh! Heidi?!? I would never insult you by sending just some newbie Vue user to you! They would have to ask questions I just couldn't answer. Sorry I didn't warn you. She'll be using bump before you know it! Speaking of which, I definitely need more practice with that. I can't seem to get my snail's shell to even remotely resemble a real snail. The lighter it is, the further it sticks out, right?

crossbrace In reply to markopolio [2007-07-10 14:54:48 +0000 UTC]

Yes. I'm going to have to motivate myself to really figure out functions. I need to be able to paint my own bump maps and color gradients.

markopolio In reply to crossbrace [2007-07-11 22:30:06 +0000 UTC]

On the one hand I'd like to say I'd like to do that too. Then again the thought of color gradients and bump mapping is a bit ... intimidating, to say the least.

I think you will find that you will be happier with more tools in your kit. What I'm seeing now in the best work here is a more seamless comb of various modeling and postwork tools.

I found a Poser add-in that allows you to paint on the model, finally. Should come in handy for blending those odd miss-matched textures.
