My audience is so fragmented, I'd need to mention it several times but that could be cut/paste stuff. At least save me from having to sit and remember while I'm actually trying to get something posted. Great idea.

ARRRG! i wrote a whole long explanation about how Dev art wasn't working for me and that's why it's taken me so long to respond and that I think it looks amazing. but i hit send and it all went away...
I'll do it again:
Sweet. Apparently I'm a really sexy half elf, but i guess it isn't that hard to appear sexy when you are always compared to a half orc. I think that it turned out looking really good, especially the armor and the two swords. The boots look really good too. I like the trident. i think it stands out because it's different. thanks for going through the trouble of making it for me.
the eagle in the background is excellent foreshadowing. I think making the hole in the forest canopy to exaggerate the eagle was genius. As usual, the scenery is magnificent.
maybe i can find a way to take my armor off, for the ladies.
thanks for doing this for me. love you

Sweet. Apparently I'm a really sexy half elf. although, when i hang around with a half orc I'm always going to appear sexy. It's great. Sorry i didn't comment earlier, Dev art wasn't working on my computer. The armor and the swords at his sides look perfect, and the boots are real nice. Thanks for figuring the trident out for me. i think it's a cool touch. and the eagle is good foreshadowing. As always, the landscape is magnificent. I think that having the hole in the forest canopy to exaggerate the eagle was genius
Thanks alot. Love ya

The eagle is a necessary foreshadowing. This half-elf has the power to shapeshift-to-eagle. The eagle is actually a simple .vob (Vue object) and shouldn't be difficult to render. Because I do understand some of the issues with ray-tracing, I'm sticking with my assumption that the reflective materials and volumetric clouds were the problem.

Thank you for your fav. Here you can see what I meant in an earlier comment to you when I talked about using foreground only ground cover plants. Even so this image produced a 9gig poly count. Add the reflective surfaces and I get the horrible render times.

You are very welocme.. I see what you mean.. Now I need to figure out how you do it.. I'll get it eventually.. I'm dyslexic, so it takes me a little longer to figure things out..

Interesting (the dyslexia) I realize that that can interfere with reading and probably using the controls in Vue. Do you think it effects your eventual image? (My sister in law is dyslexic but not an artist.)

I've often wondered if it did.. I've been an artist all my life.. Before I discovered computers, I designed and made beaded jewelry.. I know I see things differently.. I hear things differently.. I don't just hear music, I see it.. My type of dyslexia affects the way I process numbers. I read very well, and understand most of the concepts of mathmatics, but I cannot do the numbers.. I think I told you I have problems with placement.. It's one of the reasons Vue works for me, and Bryce doesn't.. Having those 4 different angles of the image helps a lot.. I'm posting a new piece tomorrow.. I worked all day on it.. It's still very simple, because of the control problem.. I hope I will do better, as my hand heals..

It's all right.. I don't want to sound rude.. For many years I had no idea why I had these problems.. I still can't tell left and right, unless I stop and think about it, and I am very afraid of driving.. Dyslexia manifests differently in each person.. Most dyslexics are very intelligent, but because of the backwards wiring of their brains, they look stupid to others.. I've learned to be very patient and not take offence when other's don't understand.. Most of us are tormented in school and many like me, don't finish formal school, but end up being self educated..
[link] This is the piece I posted today.. If you have any feedback, I will always be open to it.. As for my hand I had surgery on it March 6th.. I will be most of the summer healing.. My control isn't what it should be.. There are photos in my scraps of what was done..

I certainly didn't mean to imply that your reply was rude. You have been most kind and self revealing. As I said, my sister-in-law has dyslexia and your experience with rudeness sounds a lot like hers. That is why I was making sure you knew I did not intend any offense. In her case the dyslexia seems to be balanced with an almost incredible talent for empathy. She works with mentally and emotionally challenged kids. One day of her life would put me in the bin but she keeps giving. I am a high IQ kind of guy. It was coming to know my sister in law that completely convinced me that there really were different kinds of intellegences. She is smart though doesn't test well, of course. But she also has this ability to intuitively understand and connect with other people that seems like magic to me just as my ability to do complex calculations must look odd to her.
If speedy recovery for your hand isn't possible, then I'll wish for steady recovery. I appreciate the link and will go look and comment.

I think I'm in love... What a gorgeous ma... image, that's it, I meant image, yes.
But seriously, I place this pic among your best ones. The setting and lighting are wonderfully realistic, the pose is quite dynamic, yet the man seems to be deep in his thoughts - kudos for that. His armor is very good looking and believable, too, though I would probably add some texture to the pants, they look a tiny bit too 'shiny' but that's just my personal preference, of course.
Anyway - damn good job.
Oh, and as for render times - imagine rendering this in Poser... it would take at least a month.

I appreciate your comment and fav very much. (He does have sorta pointy ears under that hair.) You know, I do agree with you about the pants. Something's off with the trident materials also in my opinion. I plan to let the character's "owner" take a look before I go changing things. I'll post him again with the changes.

Yep, my first experience with commissioned work was a character I asked Rain to do for my elder son last summer. She wouldn't charge me either. I did send her a framed print of it as a "thank you."
