Thank you very much for your comment. You did notice the elements I sweated over like the lights and the little postwork details. I assembled this costume out of bits and pieces and you are right about the corset. As my postwork skills, eye, and confidence improve; I hope to catch more of those little things.

It's difficult to express what your tutelage and friendship have meant to me. "Everything" is not a strong enough word. Rarely can an aspiring artist point to the one person who, among several mentors, has been the greatest influence, most constant inspiration, ever-patient teacher, remorseless goad, willing helper, and dearest friend. I can.

Well I have some words, they are: Thank you for being one of my inspirations. I learn so much from artists like you who are willing to talk with me about their work. Thank you for the fav.

I hope you know just how good this is. I may keep up in the technical department, but you absolutely shine in the artistry.
I'm not sure, I think they're begging for their Daily deviations not rations!

Hah. Thanks. And thank you for the fav. On the technical side: while poser light sets have some real advantages for lighting characters, I just don't know how to make them light a scene as well as I can do with Vue lighting. Vue6I now allows for volumetric to be set for each light; along with the flare, softness, fade, and so on we had in V5I. This toolset alone makes it worth importing some scenes into Vue even if, like this one, there are no actual Vue objects used. It still almost grinds my Vue to a halt to work with poser imports but, probably because of the lower poly count, Vue will render these Poser things quickly even at high quality and larger sizes.

So, are you importing the scene? Or the characters, etc. and building the scene in Vue? It's darned strange. Since both poser and vue are e-frontier products. You'd think they would work better with each other. I seriously think they released Poser 7 too early. This seems like a beta testing fix.

Vue is e-on, Poser is e frontier. Vue uses Cornicopia as a marketplace, Poser uses CP. I suspect that most of the items sold by DAZ end up in Poser. There is some kind of tie between Vue and Poser though not as close as DAZ and Bryce. Everything in this scene is composed in poser and imported as a single mesh into Vue. The lighting etc. is done in Vue. I'm working on another, much simpler, poser scene which crashes Vue no matter what I do (even go down to just wire mesh). That scene, eventually will have a Vue rendered background imported for a final poser render. Don't know what else to do.

I'm off to work. We'll talk more about this later. But there's a section at e-frontier that contains something Vue... I went to e-frontier for some other reason. But I distinctly remember a Vue section...

Yep, they sell it, it's not listed as one of their main products, but it's not listed as third party either. ?? I won't pretend to understand all the links.

Now you understand my confusion. Think maybe it's some different version that could work different/better with Poser???

You know, if you look at RDNA, you see software for sale also. I think this is just a case of makers trying to establish as broad a distribution as possible. I notice that the ones I assume to be resellers don't seem to offer the slashed price or trial issues of superseded versions. It is not illegal for manufacturers to guarantee not to undercut their distributor resellers on price. There must be a structure of such agreements in the 3d software industry.
The only software Iβve seen sold under two names is Bryce and I donβt know enough about it to understand the possible differences.

I think they planned there to be, and there is compatability, sort of. Vue is designed to import poser scenes. Did you know that Vue checks to make sure you have Poser installed before it will import the object?

markopolio In reply to crossbrace [2007-02-11 15:54:43 +0000 UTC]
I'm trying to deal with a few compatibility issues myself at the moment. I've found that new morphs don't actually change the character, or prop. Since my character is rather low poly (22k) I wanted to fracture some of the more important sharp curves. I'll have to translate and export a Vicky type character to see what my goal should be. MakeHuman, which gives me the base to work with, quick and dirty, exports only .obj files. TrueSpace, which I like and learned, will break the polygons, very nicely. But it won't export into anything readable by any of my other programs, another proprietary format .cob. Blender is a royal pain to use, but it looks like I'll have to learn it now too.
One funny note! Somewhere along the line, my zero pose managed to get turned 90 degrees on the x axis. So when I import her she's face down now. Did I tell you I lost her skin? It got replaced with bronze somewhere. She's a quite lovely statue right now!

Face down, bronze, low-polygon. I would have expected white or gray. But it's a nice bronze.

Enjoy? Well depends whether I'm in the pit or not?! Great job again - agree with all previous comments (lazy man's crit!). Nice blur on the hand, and I love the little details - eagle's head, hook on chain, softening on candle glow - great stuff.
cheers

Thanks for the fav. (I'm always happy to get a "ditto" type comment, I give them myself.) That silly candle in the background took longer to get right than anything else in the Vue portion of the work. Good eye.
