Description Dance inspired because I am always in awe of the amazing acts of dancers. It took on a little more meaning though as I painted. This was one of the rare paintings that I saw as a glimpse in my mind and just wanted to get out on a (digital) canvas.

Tools: Photoshop CS2, Intuos 3 tablet
Time: No idea, less than 20hrs though I'd say.
Music: A mix! A lot of Darren Hayes though.

I really love this piece-its beautiful yet so elegant. I love that it has a slight creepy bat like feeling to the arms and wings and the translucent effect on the back fin is amazing!!!

I found you from alicexz's wishlist. Then I couldn't help but dig through your gallery. Whenever I find an artist that I like, I normally end up faving at least one artwork so that I can find them easily again. I really love the flow of the fabric and how it's slightly transluctant. And it's a dragon. So I choose to fav this.

I really love how you paint realistic dragons and your wings (especially bird wings) are just amazing. And clouds, very pretty clouds. Keep up the good work!

Your work is amazing! I love to learn tricks from experienced artists. How do you pull off the ribbon-y effect?

cryslara In reply to BrokenRapture781 [2009-03-08 02:32:52 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!
Actually, I was way out of my depth with the cloth in this, it was all pretty experimental because it wasn't something I had a lot of experience with. I pulled up a lot of reference images of cloth though and tried to work out how it would fall and fold and went from there.

If you meant the ribbons, they were just done with a small brush and a high zoom to try and keep them flowing smoothly.

Wow, this is perfectly gorgeous! The way the gauze-like fabric fads into the darkness is very evocative, and the composition really keeps the eye moving up and down the image. The warm and cool colors that you chose work beautifully together. Man, all around amazing!

Thank you. I worried about the composition of this one at first because it felt strange to have the main figure up in one corner but it fell into place more when I added in the ribbons.

Looking at it again now, I still think it's an amazing piece. The ribbons do balance the main figure well, despite being so small.

I usually don't care much about most dragon related art anymore, but this is too beautiful not to fav. It reminds me of some really old oil painting, love it.

Absolutely exquisite, I so love the flow of this painting. She looks so delicate. The lighting and color scheme make the scene perfect. The sheerness of the back fin and the material flowing behind her are just so elegant.

This is so gorgeous! It seems complicated and yet at the same time so simple. The elegance and flow of it just captivate my mind!

I'm not over fond of the head, however. Just seems a bit too odd to me but its just personal opinion.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cryslara In reply to diredragon [2008-05-11 05:40:35 +0000 UTC]

I think this may be the first painting I've done of a dragon without head adornments so it feels a little odd to me too. I liked the idea of a sleek serpentine look for this girl though - the subtly seemed to suit her better.

Thank you for your lovely words. Getting the flow working alright for this was a frustration in itself!
