Twilight Sparkle guilt-episodes are always a fun treat, especially if they're funny. And the situation that dictates Twilight's anxiety in this round of Twilight-shaming is both a hilarious concept so obvious I'm surprised hasn't been done before, as well as a sweet deviation of the princess of friendships often wise nature in these later seasons. WithΒ  whimsical little adventures and a finale that comes off as a funny reminder of how anxiety can overblow our perception of consequences, this episode displayed the self-awareness that still tends to make this show justify its existence of a ninth season. Also, Spike is an actual comedic scene stealer. A+

This episode was rather less exiting than usual, I mean with a title like that I expected something dangerous and exciting to happen, but it was just an overdue book. AN OVERDUE BOOK! They made an episode entirely on an overdue book! I mean even I can come up with something more exciting than that, like finding a place no-ones ever discovered before and opening up kinds of ancient pony magic maybe even alicorn magic, now that would be interestin.Β

I honestly didnt like this episode. It just felt boring and annoying. The moral was kinda confusing too. Is she a bad person or is it OK, the episode doesn't seem to know.Β

I completely agree with this. Some characters make TP feel like the worst villain in the world for forgetting the book, while others don't give a shit. It's a confusing moral and the episode doesn't seem to know what point it's trying to make.

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of this one. I don't know why exactly, but this is the episode where I officially hit my limit on Twilight being all panicky and OCD. It feels like that's about all there is to her character now. It works as a character flaw, but as with all things, within limits. Now it just feels like Twilight's a comedic punching-bag for the show; always trying to amp up how crazy and over-the-top they can make her with any actual character growth being more related to her title and position than anything else. Since this season already showed "Twilighting" in the premiere (for good reason, it should be acknowledged) and again last episode, this episode brought me up short that they felt back on it again. Plus, I'm just -done- with episodes where the moral is "Twilight has to realize that she's not perfect and can't expect perfection from herself, despite being a princess." It's been done way too much.

The 'moral' of this episode was a bit confusing to me. She is both criticised for being an awful person for leaving the book for so long and also told at the end not returning the book doesn't matter. It's unclear whether she did a bad thing or not ;'O

In this ep at least she decided to return even if it means bye bye trusted book keeper. (But hey at least everyone will still appreciate twilight as a princess and got to keep the book amirite, lol.) She's like me when I worries about consequences losing books and items.

The entire episode in a nutshell

As for the rating, I gave the same rating as you did. At this point I'm quite tired of Twilight making a mountain out of a molehill although, admittedly, this situation perfectly fitted her personality. However, aside from that wonderful message about perfectionism - which I, a person cursed with perfectionism, can fully appreciate - and the fact that it made me change my 'C' rating of Sparkle's SevenΒ to 'B-', I think that this episode indeed deserves no more than a 'C+'.

I actually liked the premise of this one - I liked the callbacks to earlier episodes and that Spike and TP teamed up. The biggest issue for me was the mixed messaging - the elderly character seemed angry with TP, only to say she wasn't in the final scene. It was all a little bit confused and lacked a clear moral to the story.

Yeah, I have to agree. OK premise, mixed delivery. Still a better story than the Twilight saga

I didn't dislike it, it wasn't a bad episode, it's just it wasn't anything special or particularly entertaining. The plot was pretty average, and seemed like a filler episode to me. I liked seeing Moondancer return, though.
