Construction Notes:
This costume was a surprise -- something I threw together in a matter of hours to make up for another costume falling through. I'm oddly content with how things went, though, because Haibane Renmei has long been one of my favourites! The only two items that I created for this costume were the skirt and the wings. The jacket was a thrift store purchase that I modified, and the boots were originally part of my Rinoa costume. I sacrificed my Ema Skye wig for this costume, since it was simply a matter of snipping out the bun and trimming the bangs. All in all, not bad for a 6-hour costume! I was lucky enough to be rooming with Ted, who is a fan of the series as well. It's always nice to work with photographers who know the source material, as then you end up with highly-relevant photos like this. (Mutual fans will understand the significance of the background. If you've never seen the show, please consider watching this 13-episode anime. You will not regret it!) Normally I'm not a fan of stiff poses, but Reki always has this awkwardness to her, like she's not meant to be part of the world she inhabits. I think it worked well enough for this shot.
