Very true. In fact the only thing bigger than the Ever Living Mumm-Ra is his ego.

but that's what makes him so great. He wouldn't have failed so often if the sword of omens wasn't OP as heck.Β

Hey man, I wouldn't discount new people like me just now discovering how cool Thundercats is. I strongly encourage you to keep posting, its awesome to see this stuff and its great to have a source that can offer insight on the production. I just looked Leonard Starr up before I came here and was saddened to see I missed a chance to write a thank you for the good work.Β
Do you know who did these originally drawings for the line up and other concept work?Β

Thank you for your questions. I do not know who did the drawings for the line up and other concept work. While Leonard was an accomplished artist his main concern on the show was the writing aspect of it and that is what kept him the busiest. Every script that came in for his to read eventually got a major rewrite by him before getting on the air. There are very few illustrations from the show that I can trace back to him. Those are the head shots that I started posting and there is also the map of Third Earth that he drew as a guide for the writers.

This is great! I've seen black and white copies of the ThunderCats concept art before, and I've always wanted to see the color versions.

Back in the 80s it was much easier to reproduce black and white copies and that is why the studio didn't generate a lot of artwork to send out to the various people involved in the production of the series because it wasn't cost effective or necessary.

Holy Cow, this is beyond fantastic. The colouring makes such a huge difference. Does tygra even have pants? Thanks so much!

If you look in my gallery at the very early color character sheets that I posted you will see that Lion-O, Cheetara and Tygra have no clothes on and that is how they were originally intended to be until Leonard wrote the Bible for the show and gave the characters a story and more details about their characters.

Very true. In fact I have been recently re-reading some interviews that I did with Leonard Starr about the pre-production days of the show. A lot of interesting things that I had forgotten. One of which is that he created the character of Wilykit because they felt that they needed more female characters in the show.

Even if I hadn't known Leonard I would still have to say that my favorite episodes were ones written by him.
