Wow. ---We must share the same brain, then. 'Avalon' was the original title in my mind.... even before I snapped the shot. I must say, MY jaw also dropped when I read your comment!

--Thanks SO much for the comment! ~and also for the 'watch'. --When I get a chance, I will certainly drop by!

---- Thanks a lot!!

Taken from Silver Islet --north west shore of Lake Superior...about an hour from Thunder Bay, ON.

The 'Island' in the photo is known as "Powder Rock" or "Powder Island". --It was used to store TNT for nearby mine blasting.

Cheers!

This is a very romantic and mysterious shot which I find appealing. I find myself wondering just what happens on this strange mist enveloped island and who might live there.

Thankyou for the submission.

The texture on the water is quite nice, I am not sure about the top set of clouds but the lower ones seem to add quite an affect to the image. Great pic and good luck in the competition.

Beautiful! The mist creates a real atmosphere that I can almost feel on my skin. I also like the light on the water on the right hand side, which is why I wouldn't have cropped that side more. If I were going to analyze the cropping, I'd make wider and crop it at the blue part of the sky.

Curmudgeon75 In reply to 16stepper [2006-02-19 21:37:37 +0000 UTC]

Great suggestion! ...It's so funny you've said that!- (About cropping at the blue spot/line) -I already have! --I think it makes a better picture that way, but I'm losing quality with each crop.

The top of this pic doesn't quite fit perfectly, I feel. A little unbalanced.

Thanks so much, Liz! I love getting suggestions and ideas.

16stepper In reply to Curmudgeon75 [2006-02-20 02:18:01 +0000 UTC]

Don't crop your original image file! Always create a duplicate and work on that. That way, if you need to change things, you don't lose quality. Hope that helps!

I am here to comment on this photograph in the capacity of one of five judges for the 2006 Photography Olympics

The shot portrays a very dream-like scape of undeniable natural beauty. It obviously portrays an opportune moment for the photographer and definately inspires a desire within the viewer to experience such a moment/place. The simplicity of the photo gives it a strong appeal and the lighting is controled nicely. I feel the crop could be a little tighter on the right side to balance the visual 'weight' of the photo.. however that may not have been possible without losing some of the more appealing asthetic aspects elsewhere. The photo is presented in a very appealing manner, that is to say the framing enhances the contrast of the photo.

Cheers, Cin. -Much love.
