MP + Noct = Perfect Gear, but it also takes tremendous skill to use them (especially the noct). This is a tremendous shot, beautifully taken. Excellent work, this is a keeper!

And I bet they couldn't make a spot on focus at 1.4, without their autofocus.
A 50/1.0 lense... that's sexy, Chris.

Its so cool. ive always wanted to see these people in person. and you do that as a job.
even though brad pitt wouldnt really on my top 20 people to meet.. id still wish i could take a photo of him.
i have a question. how much do u get paid per professional photo?

this is when the short depth of field not only looks fantastic but it also looks a bit strange... it almost looks as though you've taken him from another shot and dropped him into this one! i think its down to the massive physical gap between him and the next thing behind him. just brings him out more.

I like Pitt. He's the real deal I think, not just a pretty face. Fucking 12 Monkeys and Fight Club man. Great stuff. Seems like a cool dude too.
I freaking love this pic, I missed it the first time around. He's just chillin' and the background is nice and blurry and pretty clean considering. Funny, he looks a bit like Travolta in this shot, the smirk or something. Or the haircut.

The pictures I usually see of premieres are nothing like this. They're shit. This, however, is amazing. You really seem to put effort into what you do and it's obvious that your work is much more than that of a papparazzo. Well done.

well ... most are shit. but ... believe it or not ... those shit photos are the ones that run.
not paparazzo ... i'm invited by the studios to shoot.

not even caring that this is a photo of brad pitt, the exposure is just incredible! the tones on his leather jacket are scrumptious! that leica of yours is so wonderfully sharp. I hope that one day i'll make enough money with my photography that i can actually afford a good camera! lol

It's a great photo and I think he is a great actor but...I'm just not a big fan of "Brad as Brad" if you know what I mean...he seems entirely to full of himself!!!

Wonderful dof, that f/1 nocti is certainly a dream - wish my 50 f/1.4 was this good. alas, not everybody can have leicas...
I'd love to get the chance to be an assistant to somebody like you Chris...but alas, the photography 'market' is so hard to get in to...though I'm going to keep on trying and trying...everybody can dream.
not so sure on the overexposed shirt. it has too much dominance over the darkness of the rest of the frame.
wow...thats the first time I've said anything critical about your work...

it was a dream for me at one time as well. now i bang the shit out of it. go figure.
why is the photo market so hard to get into? at my level, sure, it is ... but ... a little less ...
never give up.
just so you know ... i spot meter for facial and skin tone values. those are what's important.
cheers,
chris

it's the same anywhere I think...do something for a long time and you shit on it...because it's what you know... take it away and you miss it though if you really enjoy your job.
hm, any 'tips' for breaking the market? (press wise...) obv. there'll be uk/us differences, but it might be similar...getting that foot in the door is so hard...any particular global agencies etc?
y'know, when I next go to LA i'm going to find you and buy you a drink, you've inspired me over time (that is of course, if you don't mind).

i may beat my equipment but it doesn't mean i don't like my equipment. it's like an extension of my body. when i see something i see it as though i've chosen a particular focal length and/or f/stop.
breaking into the market? you need to start small. shoot as a "stringer" for newspapers. small mags. work for free if you have to.
ITS ALL ABOUT TEARSHEETS. Once you have a few .... it's like a snow-ball effect.
Global agencies? you gotta start small. trust me ... my editor at the AP ... he sees portfolios all friggin' day from people out of Art Center ... Brooks ... etc. Forget about global agencies for now, bro.
no worries. note me when you're in l.a. i spend about half my time outside the country though.
cheers mate,
chris

Thats true, they don't seem to leave it to chance while shooting high profile people. I bet these photographers would like very high-def digital video cameras so every frame becomes a usable shot. Surely those cameras will be built one day.
