Description 3. Jeepers, Its The Creeper!

Probably the most iconic episode of the entire franchise thanks to its titular villain.

Positives:

This episode plays like a kid friendly version of a teen Slasher film that would go on to be big in the 1980s, with the episode featuring teenage characters having a good time and then being stalked and pursued by a monster, in this case the gang having a groovy time at a high school dance at a local barn but then the fun is ruined by the Creeper.

And speaking of the Creeper, he is one of if not the most iconic and recognizable Ghoul in the Scooby-Doo rogues gallery and its not hard to see why with his creepy hunched over and Zombie Like appearance and his menacing groaning of "Paper," due to him being after a piece of paper a half conscious bank guard handed the kids at the start (which later turns out to be a negative that reveals the identity of the Creeper), despite a common misconception of him saying his own name "Creeper" like he does in his reappearance in Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase. Among the Scooby-Doo villains, the Creeper is one of the more aggressive of the bunch with the way he pursues the gang and wasn't even hesitating on attempting to manhandle them. He's an iconic villain for his simplicity and sometimes that's all you need to make a standout villain.

"Daydreamin'" is a fun and highly Catchy 70s pop track to listen to during the Creeper Chase and adds to the slapstick comedy of the sequence.

Carswell I believe is the first villain to officially use the "Meddling Kids" line that would become a recurring phrase almost all villains would say throughout the franchise.

Negatives:

While I love this episode, I do think the bit with the Hermit in the hills was a bit superfluous and was clearly just there to set up the Hermit as a potential suspect when it's clear as day that he's a red herring and considering that we the audience would have a pretty solid idea of who the Creeper would be, the moment the episode brings this old coot in, it only further solidified the first suspect as the guilty party because the episode is clearly trying to divert our suspicions.

Though his desperate crying for the gang to come back was admittedly funny.

Final Thoughts:

But aside from that one superfluous nitpick, Jeepers, It's The Creeper is an instant classic episode of the series and one of the best because of its setup and iconic villain and thus it deserves a high spot on the list!

And here is joshvirgin's thoughts on this iconic episode....

Hey Again As Promised Here Is My “Scooby Doo” Review Of “Jeepers It’s The Creeper” Enjoy.

“Zoinks! It’s Scooby Doo And Cyber And JV Too.”
“Jeepers It’s The Creeper!” The Episode That Gave Us One Of The Most If Not “The” Most Iconic Scooby Villain The Creeper. What Happens In The Episode You Ask? Well Let’s Get Down To It. The Gang Are Off To A School Dance At An Abandoned Barn (As You Do In Most Situations.) When They Happen To Find A Car Wreck. But Not Like Most Ones Found On The Road. No This One Is More Unusual As Far As They Go. A Cop’s Card Was Torn Apart From The Inside And The Barely Conscious Cop Mumbles “The Flame Will Tell ‘The Creeper.’” Upon Handing Them A Blank Sheet Of Paper. The Creeper In Question Is A Green Hulking Zombie Like Phantom That’s Been Robbing Banks And Allegedly Can Walk Through Walls. Such Is Explained By The Banker Mr. Carswell (Later Called Deacon Carlswell In Future Media.) The Gang Leave The Cop In His Care. At The Party All Is Going Well For Scooby And The Gang As They Dance And Shaggy Enjoys Chocolate Dipped Corn On The Cob Which Sounds Nasty Thinking Back. It’s Amazing Shaggy Can Stomach Such. The Party Is Quickly Cut Short Seemingly Due A Power Shortage But It’s In Fact A Bigger Problem The Title Villain The Creeper. Who Kind Of Looks Like The Frankenstein Monster Mixed With Solomon Grundy. He Gives Chase To Mystery Inc. Yelling “Paper!” Often Wrongly Thought To Be Him Yelling His Name “Creeper!” Over And Over Again. Speaking Of The Misconception This Would Be How The Creeper Would Branded In Merch And Other Media He’s Featured In. He’s Shouting “Paper!” Because The Gang Have The Piece Of Blank Paper And The Gang Isn’t Quick To Give It To Him For Sure. What Follows Is A Series Of Chases Among The First Being Set To A Catchy As Hell Bubblegum Pop Song Called “Daydreaming” By Austin Roberts That Has The Oddest Lyrics About A Guy Expressing His Love For An Ostrich. Man The 70s Were Some Thing Else. Along The Way Scooby Befriends A Baby Chick And They Briefly Meet A Hermit Living In A Cave Which Seemed More Like The Obvious Culprit For The Creeper. But Like Any Good Mystery It’s The One You Least Expect As The Creeper Is Actual Carswell. He Used The Creeper As An Escape Goat To Cover Him Stealing Money From The Bank And Frequently Disguise Him Self As Such To Throw Off Suspicion. Unfortunately For Him The Guard The Gang Met Had A Security Camera Set Up Which Took A Photo. Upon Lighting A Match Under It The Flame Ultimately Does Tell The Creeper. And With That Carswell Is The First As Far As I Can Tell To Say “Meddling Kids” In The Series. “Jeepers The Creepers” Is A Classic Episode With A Classic Monster In The Creeper. So Much So That He’d Be Featured In Different Movies And Shows And Even Has His Lore Expanded Upon In “Mystery Incorporated” And Even Cameos With Old School Scooby Baddies Again In “Scooby Doo And Guess Who?” There Is Also More Suspects Than In Most Older Episodes Like With Carswell And The Hermit For Instance. Funny Enough The More I Think Of It This Episode Almost Plays Like A G Rated Slasher Flick Complete With A Monster Stalking The Teens. This Might Have Unintentionally Inspired Future Slasher Films To Come Which Is Fitting Given “Scooby Doo” Seemingly Influenced Slasher Stereotypes For Years To Come. And For That It Gets A 5/5.
