Description One of my favourites representations of AntinoΓΌs, Hadrian's lover ^^ !!

I guess he is represented as Bacchus (he's carring the thyrsus and wearing an ivy wreath !!).

He's located to the Vatican's museums

Amazing angle! You were able to draw that close to the statue? Interesting that it is Antinous. I always thought it was Bacchus. He is beautiful, but I doubt Antinous looked like the images that remain. They are all idealized images of the boy, I'm sure. Wasn't he age 14 when he was with Hadrian?

Yes, it's easy to get close to this statue (if you push all the tourists ^^) and to try to make good shots !!! Oh I'm sure that he is AntinoΓΌs ^^ !!! I agree that all the images we have of him are quiet idealized !!! But on all the portraits I saw of him, he had the same face (ahah of course xD), so I guess that there is a part of reality (even if it's a very little part) in all these images (but, I admit that I love to believe that he was so beautiful ^^)!! I know that he died when he was 18 or 20, but I don't remember if he already was with Hadrian when he was 14 ^^" but I believe that you're right !!

Hadrian loved him so much that he created a cult in Antinous' memory. Did you ever read "Memoirs of Hadrian" by Marguerite Yourcenar? Here is a link to it: [link]

I never read it but I learned from a friend of mine that is a remarkable narrative, and intense

And if you want a biography of Antinous, insofar as it can be recontructed, read Beloved and God, by Royston Lambert. Many copies available on eBay.
