Description

This piece has been two years in the making. It has a braided metal wire core. A hardening epoxy was used to bulk it out and create a support skeletal structure. Most of the work was in the sculpted polymer clay, which makes up the outer layer. It was then painted using a mixture of acrylics and airbrush techniques. A clear layer protects the paint. Costume jewelry was then altered with tools in order to create the chains around her hooves and neck. It was created in five separate pieces, which link together using brass inserts that are embedded into the epoxy bone structure. It is 13 inches (35cm) wide from wingtip to wingtip.

This piece is being posted on October 11th, 2019. Exactly nine years and one day after the airing of the first episode, and exactly one day before the airing of the final episode. Of all the stories told, Luna’s was easily one of the most powerful. It began as one of neglect, jealousy, and weakness. A succumbing to anger and fear. Then centuries of imprisonment and hatred. With the help of a certain group of friends, healing then began. But, self-hatred and blame led to years of secrets and self-harming. She was the only one who had not forgiven herself for her crimes. But, when she finally did, only then did she become whole again.

Then, for the first time, she peacefully slept.
