Wow amazing skills. I have seen this type of bird before off of a book somewhere. I read alot about animals but I am not an excpert on birds. Mostly mammals.

Yes they are! ^^ We have Crested Terns here in China, but not those species, unfortunately.

Very pretty! The detail on these is pretty amazing, it makes their heads especially look very realistic. You did an excellent job on the eyes, very lifelike and as though they're staring straight at me. I love the coloring job, too. You lightened and darkened the colors really well to indicate lighting and shading. The subtle differences between the species is really showcased well in this without being overbearing, like the slightly different head shape of the Dwarf Cassowary. You did these exotic birds extremely well. It's not only a gorgeous and detailed glimpse into their appearances but their behavior, too. The one in the middle is staring at me quite intently.

Thank you! ^^ Yeah, I was aiming for a more scientifically accurate thing here. I kinda like this way of drawing, and I'm already working on a second piece for 4 species of ducks from the Bering Sea. I'm also considering drawing some common Floridan waders, hence the note asking for the common birds in your area. However, I'm probably also taking those of South Florida into account too, and adding some species like the Scarlet Ibis that are seen there, but not that common in your area.
Thanks! I only used around 4-5 different color pencils, so I mostly relied on shading to make it look realistic and more lifelike. These birds are easier to color as they aren't really iridescent- they're just colorful in certain areas. Iridescent birds, or birds that are one bright color all over, can be a pain to color. I also don't have any really good color pencils to use to portray such brightness- all I have are the basic color pencils that my little brother uses sometimes.
Haha yeah, the Northern one looks kinda harsh and judging, I suppose. I was trying to give them all a rather dangerous appearance (as they are often quite territorial and males with chicks will attack potential predators viciously), but it mostly worked on the Northern Casso.

You're welcome! You did well with it. Drawing things so lifelike takes real talent. I look forward to seeing those. It shocks me how few ducks I've seen, it's nice to see interesting species. Oh, that'll be cool! It makes me feel bad about cleaning out my gallery, you could've used some of those photos as references. I wish I could get some nice photos of Scarlets for ya while they're close by.
No problem. That's actually a better way to go. The same color should be lightly applied to indicate lighting instead of a different color, because that's the way it is on the actual animal. Yeah, I can imagine how much of a pain iridescence would be to color. The basic colored pencils sometimes are the best. I used to use them in Celtic Knot coloring books when I was a kid and they always turned out real well. My oldest brother in an artist and he uses crayons. His work always turns out really well, too.
Yeah. He looks angry. The Southern looks judgemental in a gentler way, sans the anger. The Dwarf looks like he's saying "Hey, don't take my food" to the viewer. They all look dangerous in different ways. I never knew males could be territorial with chicks.
