Description What Is This?
I was asked by many about my musical influences when making stamps and asked to share some of the stories behind the concerts I have seen. I have been to 1200+ live concerts (all national touring bands/singers with albums, not local club bands or tribute/cover bands, have seen plenty of those too) and have saved every ticket stub and backstage pass (when I had one) and kept notes (like a journal) on every show I have ever seen. So from time to time I will scan in the ticket stub from a show I saw (going in no order, skipping around) and talk a little about the show and my opinion. All information property of dA--stamps/dA--bogeyman (me). This is entry#25.

The Concert:
Genesis
(No Opening Act)
March 1, 1987
Orange Bowl Stadium, Miami, Florida (USA)

Just So You Know:
Genesis (Phil Collins, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford) were touring to support their most successful album ever 'Invisible Touch' ("The Invisible Touch World Tour 1986-1987"). Genesis would also record their live videos 'Visible Touch' and 'Live At Wembley Stadium' on this tour.

Personal:
I was really into the songs "Land of Confusion" and "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" at this time (both were big hits due to massive radio play and MTV video support) so was excited for this concert. I bought my ticket for the show and planned on going with friends Dave, Manny and Glen - bit it ended up being much more then that LOL. Dave had three friends and Glen had four friends and all ten of us wanted to party for a few hours before the show and not drive, so we all chipped in and hired a mini-bus with a full bar and driver for the night and began partying early right up until showtime in our little bus. No one thought to bring food so we just drank and drank and drank and when we finally went inside the stadium for the concert we all wolfed down 3-4 hot dogs each because we were starving LOL.

The Live Concert (Opener):
There was no opening band for this show.

The Live Concert (Headliner):
Genesis has a loyal group of fans and they sure showed up in full force at this concert. When the lights went out and the music started the crowd roared for the music. It was a slow intro and they went into "Mama" as the show opener, large video screens behind the band and on the sides of the stage showed the band as they performed. The next song was "Abacab" and that picked up the momentum of the audience but when they began the third song ("Land of Confusion") the stadium went up in smoke with cheers and the crowd began to dance for the first time and would dance for the rest of the concert. Noticeably Phil Collins did not speak much before each song, I had seen him in concert solo and he talked a lot more then (maybe he lets Genesis do all the taking with their music). Genesis also played longer versions of most of their songs, solos would be longer and sometimes an extra chorus of a song would be added on the end. The audience really responded to "Land of Confusion", "That's All", "Mama", "Invisible Touch", "In Too Deep", "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight", "Follow You Follow Me", "Home By The Sea" and "Throwing It All Away". The whole concert was around two hours ten minutes long (including encores). Honestly I like Genesis but I just thought something was lacking from this concert. The crowd cheered and sang along but it seemed like the band was 'going through the motions' and I thought they would play a little longer (there was no opening act) and play more songs (they played like 17 songs making each a little longer as I mentioned before, they could have played more songs). So I would say this was a "good" concert but not a "great" concert and none of us had to drive home and we were tanked throughout the evening so that added to that nights fun LOL.
