Description After a long break I eventually was able to start processing the pictures from my last photo journey, where I was visiting the island of Tenerife together with my buddy N. Alexander Otto Photography.

I took this picture on one of my favourite spots in the north of the island and because I didn't take seascape shots for such a long time this felt like pure bliss, being out and about at the wild sea, smelling the salty air and feeling the raw power of the waves rolling in.

We almost spend two hours staying at huge rocks next to the beach soaking in the scenery and sometimes also salty water from big waves which we didn't anticipate. In the end we had to get our feet wet because it was getting high tide and there was already a small stream of water between the rocks and the beach which cut off our way back.

It's doing as expected for being self published so far 😂 We are currently working on #2

Haha, what did you mean by that? It's not doing so well?
It can't be so bad when you're already working on the 2nd one, I guess, or hope

When I say we didn't have huge expectations for it, that is because of a few things. It's the first time either of us have attempted and completed something like this. We both have experience writing but not a book, especially one put together by two people, where combining artistic visions can be tricky.

It's also a trade book - not something I would call a big deal or our life's work. It's more our humble first attempt
And lastly, the content itself - a collection of short stories of our adventures growing up around the Slave River and Wood Buffalo National Park as we were getting into photography. There are just so many photography related trade books out there, even if ours has something unique, that's a noisy market. We self published, self marketed, and then got too busy with other things to market it much more.

All of that considered, that we both made enough off it so far to make a few car payments isn't something I would either embellish or complain about. We didn't expect to get rich or whatever, cause there's just so much people doing so much stuff out there. We also wrote and structured it the way we did to be aimed at very specific demographics. So we didn't expect a total flop either. We left some 'easter eggs' inside, so who knows what might happen as they're picked up

Wow, I didn't expect such a detailed answer
But yeah, most of the stuff you said makes sense and is understandable, I hope you guys will learn from all shortcomings of the first book and have a successful second book

For some reason it doesn't feel sharp. Camera movement?

da-phil In reply to DimensionSeven [2018-05-28 20:12:36 +0000 UTC]

it's tack-sharp here, only the background in the top right corner is not quite as sharp as the foreground at 100%.

maybe it's some sort of optical illusion due to sharpening or all the movement of the water

stupid question: did you view the image at 100% here on dA? like here: orig00.deviantart.net/eeb5/f/2… ?

Nice photo... also you fool me as I was thinking that is Iceland. Well done!

haha, I didn't mean to fool anybody, but I see what you mean, I guess those sea stacks in South Iceland are way more popular than those

thanks Sebastian!

Gorgeous capture! I absolutely love how wild the weather is! If I may, I would suggest to up the saturation in the sky just a bit to bring out the beautiful colours in there a bit more. Such a great shot!

yup, the weather was really wild and so was the sea

thanks for your suggestion! actually the sunrise was not very spectacular colourwise, it was very subtle and I actually like those subtle pastel colours a lot
