"So why Neorasa?" Masaru asked.
He kept following Sato. He was bold, maybe even stubborn, even though he was frightened at the same time. Sato felt it. The energy surrounding him just breathed fear, but that only made him more fascinating to Sato.
"The term comes from the Book of Darkness, doesn't it?" Masaru asked. He used his index finger to push his glasses back on his face. With all of his silly talk and mannerisms he was like a textbook nerd. His questions were annoying. No wonder he had no friends, Sato thought.
"Is there a reason?" Masaru continued asking.
"Neorasa means new race" Sato replied, just to get him to shut up. "Or at least that's the rough translation." He wasn't even looking at Masaru. He just kept walking. "It is a reference to the new race of people with powers that rose after the so-called apocalypse 5000 years ago. They say it will happen again. A new god, a new race to purify this world."
A grenade exploded in the distance. The floor trembled underneath both of their feet. Sato was naturally unafraid. His powers protected him, but even though Masaru was powerless he didn't really flinch. Perhaps he got used to it. Exraion was a war zone, after all.
"So why do you call yourself that?" Masaru asked. No, he wasn't afraid. He just assumed Sato would protect him.
"It's a concept" Sato explained. "And it sounds a lot better than my actual name."
Masaru grinned. "So you associate yourself with the Lady? A god?" He couldn't stop smiling. "So what do you intend to do? Purge the world of all evil, like she did? Come on, you know it's just a legend."
"You think so?" Sato replied. Masaru's ignorance annoyed him. "I will be a god one day." He turned around. Although Masaru was a lot taller, he shuddered at the sight of Sato's glowing red eyes.
"A god, huh?" Masaru muttered, still with a great sense of disbelief. He probably just thought it was funny.
"I will be the most powerful esper that ever walked this world" Sato stated. A smile formed on his face. "And I will eliminate all that oppose me, so you'd better stay on my side, Masaru."

Back in the day when Sato and Masaru met in Exraion. Masaru being a socially awkward, pill popping, cynical nerd with an utter disregard for his own life. Sato being a teenager that just tried too hard to be taken seriously (though those powers of him were seriously dangerous XD). They made a great team regardless :')
