Nobu can best be described as someone you can always turn to when you need help. Often times he is standing ready to lend a helping hand, even when you hadn’t asked him yet. This is not because of his vision but mostly because his habit of being a silent watcher. By not putting himself in the spotlight, he is more of an observer and actually quite content with it. One thing you might not suspect of him is that Nobu is actually pretty clever. He has been taught a lot of biology but never shied away from learning more about the world himself. While it should probably not be needed to be said, but he is precise. In how he places his needles but also with things he does, he wants to do a good job.

As much as Nobu seems nice and means well and everything, it is quite easy to see that he seems off. Whether it be just because of his 8 eyes or the fact he calls acupuncture stabbing, something about him seems eery. Also for someone observant and clever, he is oblivious to small social cues and can easily believe lies at face value. If you want him to understand you are not in the mood for him, be honest with him. The good thing though, he understands sarcasm! Having grown up with his grandparents and not around other baltoys and claydols, Nobu is really insecure about his 8 eyes and the fact he can read the flow of energy. It is also why he doesn’t stay in the spotlight often, too much attention makes him nervous. And if you are his friend or even just someone he knows, he likes to hang around, not shying away from just holding your arm or touching your back.

Backstory:
Nobu never knew his mother, all he knew was that she had been a wonderful lady and gave her life for his. When he was born, she had passed away soon after and all that was left was his father and him. His father never shied away from being there for his son, trying his best to be both parents but nevertheless, it was troubling for the single dad. To make sure Nobu had a placed while he was off for his job, his wife’s parents stepped in and took care of him. Nobu liked his grandparents, finding them somewhat odd but they were another connection to his mom and so he couldn’t be happier.

When he turned 7 however, that happiness collapsed on itself. With the Autumn Kingdom having stolen power from the tree of life, his father was sadly enough drafted to fight in the war. Or at least, that is what Nobu believes, wanting to think his father never wanted to leave him voluntarily. His grandparents took the young boy in and now he had their house to call home.

His father never came back for him, having been just another casualty in the war in the end.

Now Nobu’s parents weren’t terrible in raising kids, they had successfully raised their daughter, but most townspeople would think they weren’t the most suited. They were not worried about his grandfather, who was still working as the town’s healer who never minded to make visits to the sick. It was his grandmother’s interests that made them seem unsuitable together and for raising children. His grandmother loved the dark arts, even getting called a witch by scared kids. She wasn’t evil however, it just piqued her interest. Nobu himself never found it odd, as far as he knew, his grandparents had always been like this and they had also always been two sweethearts to him.

Now a little fact about Baltoy Nobu is that he was incapable of seeing colours. Due to his species his eyes were closed but he could still see, it was all just in black and grey. He had never seen it as that much of an issue, he didn’t know what he was missing. That changed however when he finally evolved and his eyes opened. All 8 of them.
Nobu stood there for a moment and looked around, realising how much he had been missing before and he just cried, he cried so hard. When he looked up at his grandparents surrounding him, who had sped to him when they noticed the evolution, his eyes went wide. He didn’t just see them in all their colours but he saw more… he saw their… energy? Auras? It confused him but it didn’t hurt to look at. Both his grandparents had lovely colours surrounding them.

With his enhanced sight, Nobu was often just preoccupied with looking around, looking at people, trying to find out what each colour meant. He also often came along with his grandfather, wanting to know more about what he did and this way he could see more! And… he started to notice something. He could see their worries and blemishes in the swirls of colours around them and once he noticed this, he told his grandfather. The old man was thrilled to hear about this! Within a few weeks, Nobu was his valuable assistant. Due to wanting to know more about the colours and just the body, the young Claydol started to learn about his trade.

A few years later, Nobu was almost getting bored with the same thing over and over again. Yes, he loved helping his grandparents around the house, he loved helping the townspeople who didn’t seem too put off by his eyes. But… it felt like he wanted more. His grandparents understood this sentiment, they knew their grandchild, they had taught him all they knew. His specialty in acupuncture was a glorious mix of voodoo and healing, they knew he was a bright kid. And so they accepted him to go wander, telling him that their house would always be his home.
