In response to the slew of shit `DoItForTheLulz got for his stamps:where people constantly tried to tell him parents get a free ticket just because they're parents.
Yeah try explaining that to someone who was raped by a parent, or beaten, or even killed.
It's nice that you live in a pink little bubble where all parents are perfect and as such don't even have to try for love and respect to get it, but that's not so with reality.
And we wonder why people don't take notice of child abuse more often.

I agree that respect is earned, but love isn't. Parents love their children before they're born(most the time), and the kid didn't have anything to do with it.

Love is so earned. Some parents do not love their children. You know this.
Love is given when the giver deems it appropriate. Some don't have to do anything to earn love, but some people do. Such as, you don't automatically love a random person, you love a certain person because they've proved your worth to you as a preferred partner.

Absolutely right there. All things considered, some adults I know don't deserve love or respect from anyone, let alone their kids (who tend to cop the worst of it, unfortunately...). Happily for me I haven't suffered at my mum's hands, but I still agree with this stamp.

My father isn't like in your description...
...But I lost respect for him, when after several years of psychological abuse and torment from students and teachers, I fought back and got in-school suspended. I was suspended for being cornered by a student and fighting him out of terror. The principal irately complained how I didn't do my work, and my father BETRAYED ME by agreeing and threatening to "push me forward" despite also hearing from me that I had to punch a kid IN THE FACE just to let me out of the damn corner of the fucking room.
Well, I'm sorry that I prioritized survival over math. I figured if I'd shut down and not move, they would leave me alone. How naive.
He also recently bitched me out for "not going to school or working" and that "I have no rights because I don't pay any bills". I should also "respect him because the house is HIS".
Good luck with that, douchebag.

Oh my god, I go through the same exact thing (even now that I've been out of high school for three years...). But the worst part of it is that my mother, who usually is very supportive of me, says what my father puts me through isn't abuse and that I have to stop being so sensitive.
tl;dr I know what you're going through. Stay strong, I'm sure things will get better once you are able to set off on your own
