Description Just made this one obscure fossil shark, not too much paleoart depicting this fella and not much representation in popular culture either for it either. Had only I depicted this shark sooner this could've been averted. Anyways, have fun with this...... what is this? Isurus mantelli? Otodus appendiculatus? Oxyrhina mantelli? Squalus zygaena? Alopias sp.? I don't know to be honest.

Okay but for realzies, I'm making this ginsu shark (Cretoxyrhina mantelli) for a graph that's just getting started on showing examples of gigantism in hyperpredatory sharks, and the ginsu is one such example I am reconstructing for. Others which are planned to be included are Cardabiodon, Leptostyrax, great whites, tiger sharks, Ptychodus, Otodus/Carcharocles, Paratodus, and a couple others as well. The color version won't be done for a little while, unfortunately, but more shronks are incoming soon however.

It a always weird to see how large their eyes are and how short their faces are.

It was a bizarre shark, even by shark standards (outside yunno hammerheads and threshers, no Edestus and Helicoprion aren’t sharks in the technical sense). The large eyes gave this shark more developed vision, greater than most sharks at the time or now, and it’s robust short head would’ve almost certainly given it an edge on prey. Truly it was a masterpiece of shark evolution (too bad most media depictions of it paint it either as a great white clone or a dumb looking thresher)

Goblin sharks are even more bizarre than all the other.

For sure, and you're definitely right about most depictions.

They are entertainment over education, I was merely jabbing at that and the fact many people take them as 100% accurate
