Description Not a “league”, but a loosely knit clandestine organization that governs Illinois’ two-dozen costumed vigilantes… the PARRIS CITY SAINTS. The five founding members, from left to right:

MISTER STACCATO: A fearless journalist forced into retirement by political pressure, Ken McCain now exposes scandal and corruption as a masked detective, with the aid of his loyal sidekicks, Beebop and Backbeat, and a cane full of tricks.

CRIMSON QUIVER: Bored with the life of an idle billionaire, Demetrius Bone gets his thrills – and some measure of validation – by patrolling the streets, perforating ne’er do-wells with his vast array of “specialty arrows”.

THE FOWL: Stephen J. DeMoge is CEO of the city’s largest corporate conglomerate, ParrisCorp. He’s also a psychotic genius, conditioned to be a killer since he was twelve years old. By night, he preys on those who prey on others, and the guilty had better pray to God, because the Fowl’s prey never lives to see morning.

SPOOK, PI: A strange visitor from another world – according to him, anyway – Milton Spook possesses a keen deductive mind, surprising physical strength, and the ability to reshape his body to resemble anyone or anything. He solves crimes involving the less-than-wealthy citizens of Parris, free of charge.

THE MIME: An acrobatic martial artist with the ability to tap into the hidden powers of the human mind, jazz singer Trisha Allard watches over Parris City’s impoverished downtown districts. She is also the Saint’s liaison with the rest of America’s superhero community – everyone loves the Mime, even if they don’t approve of her company.

There are others, of course… The Gauze, Doctor Fist, The Secret, and so on… but these are the big dawgs. These are the guys you really shouldn’t screw with. Not that stops people from trying.

Aped from this movie poster: [link] . I always figured a team of superheroes would be more like Ocean’s Eleven than the Justice League.

I'm sure he would too! Birds and dogs so seldom get along.

that bit about a team being more like oceans 11 than justice league is spot on.
I never quite empathized with a bunch of utterly confidant godlike beings bearing over the world from their giant space station.

immoral fascists and cardboard cutouts
I don't think I could have come up with a better way to describe the majority of superheroes today

and I always liked to idea of comics exposing a darker side of super powered life.
like that new comic from Garth Ennis
ya'know "The Boys"

Oops, missed this one...

I've been digging "the Boys" too. I've been a longtime fan of what he's done with the Punisher (a character I had zero interest in beforehand). He has a real knack for creating people who actually feel like people, something I'm trying to shoot for in my writing. He's also tops at sneaking in social commentary under the radar, something a lot of comic writers try but few -- so very few -- actually succeed at.

I hear you. That's my ambition; to write a comic about a team of superpeople who actually act like human beings instead of immoral fascists or cardboard cutouts (which is not to say I don't like a little cardboart cutout action every now and again, but it gets old real fast).

Thanks. I loves me the casual superheroes. Really, why would anyone pose for the camera 24/7 like most comic book heroes tend to do?

Say, I oughtta get going on your art trade, shouldn't I? I mean, jeeze... It's been a month already. Get your ass in gear, Dan!

He's half black, half white. Still, he should be a little darker. Darker than Staccato, anyway.

I love the stories that go along with all of these guys man. They're all great characters and I can't wait to see more of the other guys we haven't seen much of around here. Fantastic pic with fantasic colouring by Ben.

dan-sch In reply to striffle [2007-05-21 00:46:39 +0000 UTC]

Seriously, Ben is the man.

I've had these guys -- and a CRAPLOAD of others -- for a long time, but I wanted to stick to just the Fowl and the Mime for a while, flesh them out. People know who they are and what they do now, so I can branch out into my other superdudes.
