This large carving is almost finished. The next step is sanding, sanding, and more sanding. Sometimes I have difficulty letting my carvings go.

You're very kind, my Friend. After about a year, I am now finishing this piece. The whole piece is over 4 feet long by approx 18 inches. I should have some photos in a couple of weeks.

I don't know how you find the inner strength to carve this beautifully and clean and.. I never did that in my life but it's such a noble way of turning the Ones that give us life into such amazing works of art.. A wonderful tribute to trees and beauty i see in all your works..

You are very kind, my Friend. I believe the carving is already within the wood that I choose to carve on. For me, the art is learning to listen to what the wood is telling me and keep my own thoughts/ego out of the way....so I'm usually listening to blues music while I carve....ha ha.....Music is a big part of helping me with the 'flow' so to speak.

Yes indeed music has that spell over us. I tend to listen to techno music when i need to make repetitive tasks when drawing and otherwise I'm not really keen on listening to something special(i got some favourite genres though) but the absence of music makes me hear the overall vibration of electronics everywhere around me and it fucks with my calm and artistic process.. Best is when i can use headset and just get lost in music but i can't really do that.. people need me and i even though i love to be disconnected from reality those around me don't like it that much 
I really like to hear about your process... it's wonderful to understand what drives you and how you do these wonderful carvings .. I have figured you are really close to nature and that can be seen in all your art works and i really like that about you

When I carve on something I can just 'enforce my will (ego)' upon it to create what I think I want; however, it will be difficult and when finished, I won't like it.
The art becomes much more than just carving. Carving is just taking the excess away to expose what is already there. It is a 'right brain' thing....a matter of space and essence. We usually view reality through the left brain which is involved with angles, numbers, and substance.
You might like this book called 'Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.'

Btw, i have some interesting pieces of wood around(i moved into a house with yard in the suburbs) and i was thinking of giving it a shot but the wood seems a bit too old ..
