Description I don't know what possessed me to take on this project... but I think Sam and Dean might actually have to exorcise this demon in person (ohiwish).

This will (hopefully) be a two or three part process guide/tutorial on how I paint with Photoshop. This is just the sketching bit of it, so it's more process than tutorial. Hope it's not too hard to read. :/

pppppppffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft. Had no idea those would be slash icons, but I'm leaving 'em in anyway cause I think they're funny. XD

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand I need sleep. g'night.

I do not own the reference image or any characters there in.

Tutorial! I love tutorials No idea why since I'm too scatterbrained to ever follow them right. I like this one, very simple and to the point. Never seen this quadrant method thingy before. Looks like it makes the sketching process much more simple.

Yeah sometimes I do that box thing where you draw a shit ton of boxes on your ref and on your paper, but I wanted to try bigger sections this time
And I never follow tutorials, either XD I look at them all the time, but even if I decide to follow one to the letter, I always get bored and color shit my own way.

I sometimes turn the grid on when working digitally, but I have no idea if it helps or hinders, and I always get rid of it when I'm moving past the initial sketch stage. I was hoping it'd help me with symmetry, because I am retarded when it comes to that. I honestly think it's just easier to draw on lined paper because it's not as daunting as a blank page... Blank pages are exciting and horrifying

Ditto Though, I have to say, reading them IS really informative if you want to learn how to use a program. Learned LOADS that way

I despise the digital grids. They don't lay nicely over like a separate layer. If you try to draw a circle with the grid turned on, it usually comes out a hexagon. ...Or have I been doing it wrong all this time?

dA tutorials are what taught me how to use colored pencils, and how to navigate all the ins-and-outs of digital painting, actually. They help me, too, but I always stray from the path.

o.O What program are you using? I can turn it on and off and it doesn't affect the actual drawing at all.

Yeah, I found some cool watercolor and acrylic tips too I need DA to survive

I've been using it for like two years now. It's what I do all of my digital stuff with. Its a simple program to work and you can do a hell of a lot with it

I've never done much with the adobe line. I tend to stick with Corel (formerly jasc) now, and used to use open canvas, but switched over to Sai for a lighter workspace...

I've tried using photoshop and it went wayyy over my head I'm WAY too used to Painter.

Hm, I think I got elements with my tablet? No idea...

I've tried Corel Painter or whatever but idk, it didn't work for me. I like the organization of PS and how straight-forward it is.

Seems like we have the opposite problem XD

Yeah Elements came with my Bamboo tablet. I haven't found the need yet to upgrade. But I'm trying to find some cheap software that's good for illustrating comic book pages...

There's Manga Studio EX, never used it, but it should be good with that type of thing. I usually torrent my software, but eh =]

o.O Well, if you download from trusted uploaders it should be fine. A good antivirus never hurt, either

I haven't quite reached that level of sadism with my laptop yet... All of my digital art is saved on here. I have to appease the little men that run around (sluggishly) in its hard-drive to deliver my files.
