I prefer closed helmets like bascinet due to their protection value but this one looks good, its quite vulnerable to stabs however.
The armor has a nice amount of decoration so im guessing its for a high ranking class, it lacks protection for the limbs which is quite common on earlier armors, this lack of protection is a good reason for swords designed for slashing being a quite popular sidearm.
Scales looks better than mail but i've heard that mail offers a better protection.

Yes i saw the explanation, it makes sense, open helmets were common at that time, they would probably manage to create a helmet that works on people with beaks or snouts if they existed in real life(they were quite creative), closed helmets werent used that much at that time anyways, unless its based on a period where great helms were already invented but great helms usually had a lot of downsides, the biggest advantage of open helmets is that it allows you to draw the character's face while giving him/her head protection.
I see, that could have an intimidating effect, a decorated armor could mean that the armor is very good so the wearer isnt going down easily.
Not to mention that their formations also reduced the chances of being attacked in vulnerable areas.
Oh lamellar, i confused it which scales at first, lamellar is strong enough to stop most attacks.

Did you base parts of the armour on any existing pieces, or did you come up with everything yourself?
Either way it looks really good!

Took some inspiration from both Roman, japanese and turkish examples. But the overall design is my own. Thanks ^^

It's supposed to be lackered steel plate. The chest area is actually rather inspired by japanese armor. The two lobstered pieces hanging over the armpits are made of boiled leather. They are also patterned so that soldiers from different Naronian regiments can recognize each other. It's a kind of code system that they secretly use to root out spies or other infiltrators that might be using stolen or looted armor.

Oooooh! I'm loving this armor design! I'm just curious, does the Naronian army have a one-size-fits-all helmet for all species? Or do they try to accommodate?

Every facility has an array of craftsmen that fits the helmets and other pieces to every individual legionnaire. Besides, during the upbringing of every soldier, they learn how to create, modify and refit armor. That way they can make due with most spare equipment in harsh times.

Ah, that's smart! Give each soldier the means to equip themselves.
