Say where can I get some of the material to make one? I'm working on a new cosplay and the oc character of my choice (One of my one) has a katana as a weapon of choice and I have never made one before.
Any tips would be very appreciated.
Thank you.

The foam-plastic can be everything between a normal sleeping-mat for camping - to expencive special manifactured cellplast (which I prefer). The sleeping pad is the easiest component to get your hands on. The other ones are following: Liquid latex, 1 rod of fiberglass (between 8 to 10 mm in diameter.) and some acryllic paint.
The liquid latex is one of the most tricky ones. I have my one contact from which I buy containers for about 5 l. For one weapon, I would say that 50 to 75 cl would be sufficient. Check larp-sites and costume-sites to find it. It will be used to qoat the weapon in many protective and decorative coats.
The fiberglass rod is usually found as poles for electric pig-fences. They can be found in (i dunno the english word for it) some "farm-stores" or sometimes on larp-sites. The rod will serv as the core of the weapon and it will never break. The tip must be secured with a leather or - for example - duct tape socking to prevent the tip from wearing its way through the cellplast and thereby destroying the tip of the weapon.
The acryllic paint will be mixed with the latex (mostly like: 1 cup paint to 6 cups of latex) You'll have to coat the weapon 5 times with pure latex, then 3 times with quite concentrated black-mixed latex to create a plain black foundation to add additional colours to in the following 3 layers of paintmixed latex . The paint can be foun in almost any hobby store.
When it comes to the creation of the weapon, I can only add that you should look up different youtube and google etc. tutorials to create your own way of making them. No matter how much anyone tells anyone "how to make" bofferweapons, it will never be the same result. The tips I can give you is to use a firm material as a handle, like wood, to replicate the real weapon as good as possible. Just think about padding both ends of the weapon propely to make it safe to use.
Good luck!
