Description

There was no doubt in Wing's mind that this part of the world was called the Valley of Nowhere. One could easily get lost in these woods, just as Hikari was before the bold monk found her almost in the claws of the Xiaolin Order's greatest foe: the notorious Chase Young.

The wide and rocky path before the two was an endless road. With a little bit of energy left, the young man tried using his Chi Sense for any sign of the monks nearby, but it wouldn't go through. Wing wouldn't stop until he found them or vice versa, all the while carrying the young frightened girl on his back, along with her stuffed bunny, Usa-chan, in the front of his worn down and torn Gi.

Hikari, ever so silent on the slow ride back, clung onto the Dragon of the Void like a baby monkey holding onto it's mother. Pangs of guilt and worry poked her heart and churned her stomach with every stumble her rescuer made, burying her face into his back, listening to his labored breaths. Her eyes, staring ever so deeply into nothing, looked back on the short events following her separation from the group: the giant spider, her first meeting with Chase Young after saving her from said spider, and her Senpai stepping in to fight off the Master of Evil. Hikari felt every punch and kick thrown at Wing, watching him tumble to the ground before the petrified girl more than once, but he always got back on his feet with no intention to yield. He managed to get lucky with inflicting a fierce headbutt against Chase's forehead along with a few warding punches, but left just a mere bruise while the young dragon's forehead started to run with blood as he fell back. They fought almost as equals, but that thoughtless headbutt led to his downfall, rendering him weak and defenseless.

Chase was about to seize the opportunity to end the boy and another Dragon of the Void, but through hot terrified tears, Hikari shielded her teacher from what could've been his final moment of life. The prince of darkness left them at that, sparing his life for now with his offer to help the girl realize her potential still standing.

New tears formed in her eyes as she let out a soft sniffle and whimper. How could he carry her almost after being killed? His body must've been at its limit, including the bruises and cuts he received from the fight.

"You alright back there...?" her teacher asked in his casually calm and raspy voice. Hikari glanced her soaked eyes as he turned his head to her, showing a bold and wide smile. Her small heart felt like it was being squeezed. Why was he smiling after being brutally beaten and almost killed? Why wouldn't he just let her walk and support him instead? This only made her feel worse...

"I'm sorry, Senpai..."

Wing's grin vanished upon the sight of tears now running down Hikari's cheeks as she hugged his neck tighter, putting his walk to a heart-wrenching halt.

"I'm sorry I was weak...!" she mumbled in breaks between her sobs. "I'm sorry I wandered off...! *hic* I-If I hadn't, I-I wouldn't have gotten lost and you wouldn't have gotten hurt...! I should've helped...!"

Between the bloody forehead, the ringing bruises all over Wing's body, the point of his legs close to collapse, and a couple of possibly cracked ribs, nothing hurt more than seeing his young pupil cry, blaming herself for his current condition. As her warm tears soaked into his Gi, he put one foot after the other in the hopes of finding the other monks soon.

"No. I should be the one to apologize..." he remarked. "We were supposed to look after you. We failed to do that one thing; I failed to do that. We were taught that we always look out for each other, because we're stronger when we fight together. Master Fung always said when one pillar crumbles, the rest hold the great weight with more strain. The more pillars holding that weight, the better chances we have in fighting the war against darkness, and that means looking out for each other."

"Senpai..." Hikari looked up with growing astonishment in her eyes, feeling the last of her tears run as her teacher shared these special words of wisdom.

"As your teacher, it's my duty to look after you and teach you everything I know. We both share one goal: to find our inner selves, to harness and control our dragon elements. I have no doubt you'll master yours in time before me, but at least I'll be there to see you do it~ And don't worry about me..." Wing turned his head, showing that big smile once more. "I've been through worse." And easement settled in his heart, catching a small grin from the young girl followed by a short giggle.

"Now come on, let's go find the others."

I wanted to draw something deeper between the relationship of Wing and 's character, Hikari. This is an alternate follow up with Reiki's recent comic Sunshine of Hope.

There are some adjustments I still need to work on for my character: body shape, head size, etc. Just trying to stay true to the show.

Every day, Hikari is becoming a growing favorite of mine out of Reiki's OC cast of Xiaolin Dragons. Who knows, maybe in future pictures, I'll draw Wing interacting with the others ^^

Btw, sorry if the short story passage seemed a little rushed
