That chameleon guy is so cute! *death glomps*

Not sure what this had to do with gungans though.

I always thought the Rabotevs would've been redder in color but otherwise your pictuRe matches up exactly as to how I imagined these creatures.

that Race don't have nostrils. It'sΒ made clear in the book about half times that they smell with tongues (like snakes)

Snakes have nostrils too, and I don't remember there being any mention of them NOT having them.

very nice! Every book cover I've seen (especially 'Homeward Bound') never show a proper picture of the race. Good job!

Cool! I loved the Worldwar books and this provides a good frame of reference when picturing them (your version of the Race fits SO well). Great job!

I always pictured the Race themselves having a more forward stance, not straight upright.

I mean, even the bipedal dinosaurs had a stance that leaned forward.

Still, love it. Fav'n it.

Capital observation! Its nice to have comments from people who actually read the books

Mister-Ed-Fan In reply to Dark-Hyena [2010-03-07 23:21:15 +0000 UTC]

I guess the cover art really gave me an idea of how they looked, but I also kinda always thought of any reptillian alien species as being with a forward stance, just from how reptiles on Earth tended to end up.

Great books, glad you liked my comment on the pics. If I could DRAW I'd have tried drawing the Race, but... I fail at drawing at the moment. xD

Personally, I thought that the U.S. often got a smaller role in the books than the others. That and Japan barely got any screentime after book two.

Still, I love your rendition here. You've done a great job of taking somewhat vague collections of descriptives and turning them into coherent characters.

These pictures don’t match up with the image I have in my head of the people of the empire.

But that is just because you are not me, they match the descriptions in the novels well and are very well drawn.

Actually yours picture are probably closer to what Harry Turtledove imagined, what I imagine are basically bipedal lizards.

I'm almost tempted to use a Lee Enfield No. 4 on the top one, better yet why don't they come now then that way Canada has to upgrade/expand our military!

Awesome drawing dude, I think they should make a game, a mini-series, or even an animated series on the books.

The Resistance games were partially inspired by these books. However, while those are great games in their own right, they do not do justice to Turtledove's creations

A mini-series would be a stroke of genius, just so long as they don't make it too America-centred as I'm afraid they would make it. The beauty of the books was that all major WWII players got a POV.

Sadly, not quite all the major powers, I'm rather curious about what happened in Canada and only a bit of what happened in Austrailia is only given at the end. Afterall the Canadian Army was gearing up for Dieppe just before the Race landed and full scale production for British and Soviet units was already running. Doesn't make sense to mention them in Colonization if there was no mention or POV in World War.

I suspect Canadas ommission has something to do with the temperature. If the Lizards disliked Russia, then invading Canada certainly would not be on their top priorities.

lamnay In reply to Dark-Hyena [2008-08-06 11:23:14 +0000 UTC]

To invade Canada the would have to make their way from Mexico though the USA, having to maintain a ever expanding front in probably the most advanced country in the world at the time.

I know they're in, I have the book, I just can't recall ever reading and physical descriptions. Heck, I don't even know whether we have a true description of the Race, beyond their height and the fact that they have chameleon like eyes.

Read Liu-Han's account of them in the first book, when they start invading China. They are described in some detail when they march out of their killercraft.

There are plenty of references to the fact that they have brown/green skin, short snouts, have sharp teeth, three clawed fingers and tailstumps.

The Halless and the Rabotev are described immediately upon their introduction.
