I liked that story because the astral drops seemed like such a... a cop out, a cheap and convinient way to explain the girls' absence from Earth. And when they became self-conscious and began wishing to live their own lives... it was both horrifying and heart-breaking.
I wonder if we'll ever learn what happened to them in that other world.
