Yup. I can agree Most people treat them as annoying pest but they forgot that bark beetles destroy only unnatural forests. In Poland alpine spruce was planted in many areas. When Ips destroyed them, now mountains are covered by the beech, which should grow in these places. We can't forget that the correct nutrition cycle is possible with the help of these insects.

That's an awesome story! Hooray for species interaction! I feel the same way about pine beetles- which are a big problem here in Colorado. Or, should I say, a big symptom of improper forest management and global warming. They aren't cute, though.
