This is a really interesting shot.
Yellowstone has some incredible landscapes to picture indeed, and it tends to show fantastic colors too.
It is to see how you turned those colors to black and white nicely.
This really seems like an illustration of a dream.

red filter? looks like it. I really dig the visual effect of having the sky darker than the ground, and yet there be perfect lighting and detail. the sharpness and contarst is excellent.

and its a combo of IR filter and photoshop that makes them look so tasty. just adds that depth you love to see.

yeah upon reflection it is - but its also partly due to the different parts of the photo enhancing that effect. as in the middle is a bright white and the outside is a dark black + vignetting = LOTS of vignetting (tho it really isnt)
id dial it back a bit but.......

I love it. the only thing i'd reccomend is more of a landscape feel. This just doest feel right with the vertical orientation.

well that wasnt very brutal
i actually have a landscape and portrait shot of this same scene - but it doesnt fit when you look at how the landscape towers up and all the trees go upwards as well. It has tighter more form fitting composition in portrait shot. Everything caught on the left and right more or less takes away from the comp than adds to it
but i appreciate the critique

great shot, i love the depth of this photo. the clouds just look amazing and full of life, so great to look at. great frame up how you were on the bottom of the hill, you get to see all the landscape climbing up towards the sky. just an exciting peice. nice black and white.

in fact its the aftermath of trees being coated by boiling water and high mineral contents for long periods of time.
so basically the same thing as a fire except for the wood is still there

How did you get the sky to be Black? The top cloud lump is the focal point just because of its brightness. btw. i didn't know ifyou wanted it tobe that way.

I love the Grey-scale and the border really brings it all together, at first I didn't really like the stuff near the bottom on the ice, but I realized it made for good contrasting and the shot is very pretty
