Description Sunset from the top of Bear Tooth pass, Bear Tooth Pass Highway, Shoshone National Forest, Wyoming

On our drive from WA to IN last summer, we accidentally went the wrong route out of Yellowstone and ended up on this rather insane highway in WY. Signs at the top of the pass labeled it, "The Top of the World." The sky that night kind of made it feel like the end of the world. We had no idea where we would camp that night as the sun began its descent below the mountains, but we did stop at the top and take in the beauty. It's funny how the unintended stops can be the most memorable ones. And one of the most beautiful places. God saw fit to disrupt my plans that day, and I'm so glad He did. This image hardly does it justice, but I figured I'd post it regardless.

I always love this place. If you head from the car parking area above the lakes, you can scurry up a rock pile and just break 11K feet.

It was an incredibly beautiful and completely unintended road. One of God's little surprises and blessings in disguise along the way. We did a bit of adventuring around the area but the sun was rapidly going down and we needed to make camp for the night. You're very blessed if you live near here. Gorgeous place. Perhaps I can return one day. I definitely want to explore more of Colorado's mountainous regions.

Indeed, I live near an even more amazing place...the Wind River Range. If the Beartooths are amazing, the Winds will make your jaw hit the floor. They're the wildest mountains I know of in the lower 48.

Wow..... I'd say that qualifies for the top of the world! How high above the tree line were you?

That's what they claimed. Not sure of the exact height, but there were no trees in sight for quite some distance as we climbed the road my little Honda Civic...
Just looked it up, and the pass is almost 11,000 feet in elevation. Even has a wiki: [link]
