Description
It's time again for horror art! As I did last year, I'm going to upload one pic a day for every day in October, all following horror themes. Horror art is something I love that often gets overshadowed by fetish art for me, and this is my time to shine, and maybe do a little bit of both too!
As with many of the monsters I designed last year, these all exist within my Nightmares universe, and are my own variations of various kinds of creatures, or monsters of my own design.
The first prompt was Bat. So here is the Ahool.
The Ahool possesses a large nose, and sharp, serrated teeth for ripping into flesh, as well as powerful wings tipped with claws. It has large and deadly claws, and it's index claw is exceedingly long, and used for fishing out prey that has hidden in small areas where it cannot reach, impaling it's prey, and for blending in with it's disguise. The Ahool possesses large talons on it's feet, and two large, opposable thumb like claws on it's heel that it uses to slash at creatures or snatch them off the ground or out of the air while it flies. Finally, the Ahool possesses a massive sack on it's throat that can be inflated with air, or engorged with blood.
Living in the Jungles of Java and across parts of Indonesia, as well as in various locations on Urth, the Ahool is a kind of Vampire that evolved to exist within hot climates. Ahool Vampirism isn't contracted in the same way as other Vampirism is, through being fed on or consuming the blood of an Ahool, but the disease is spread in an auditory manner that grants the Ahool it's name. It inflates the large sack on it's neck with air and releases it through it's mouth and nose in a sound which sounds like "Ahool" that stuns creatures and resonates for miles. Creatures who hear this call are stricken with fear, and some creatures have gone deaf or even been slain from the frequency and sheer fear instilled by such a scream. The more one creature is subject to the scream of an ahool the more likely their blood vessels are to rupture, their eyes pop, or their brain hemorrhage, or for their heart to stop beating. A creature that survives the scream however may become increasingly obsessed with the Ahool, and begin imitating the sound themselves in private, or even screaming it to the heavens in the dead of night as they become fueled by adrenaline and wish to feel the rush of becoming near death once more. The creature will begin to consume their own blood, and in time they will thirst for the blood of others. At this time the Ahool can reply to their calls to the night, which soothes their bloodlust, as well as their lust for adrenaline. However not replying causes them to become subservient to the Ahool and do it's bidding in hopes that it will scream to them again and satiate their desires.
It is unknown when the transformation occurs, or why it does not occur in everyone, though it is believed to possibly be an effect chosen by the Ahool to cull their own population. But those who become servants to the Ahool and hear it's scream, slowly begin to inflate their throats and their noses elongate, as does their index finger. Many only reach this state, though if their shoulders bulge and they are able to loose a scream that the Ahool it's self approves of, they will continue the transformation into a full Vampire.
The Ahool's throat, can be filled with blood and viscera as well as air, which it drinks from it's enemies. Any combination of blood and air can suffice within an Ahool's throat, and it can still scream while blood has engorged it's throat due to several waterballoon like growths on the Ahool's back which too can be filled with blood, should the neck sack require emergency use against an enemy, and the Ahool can disengorge all of it's blood to pressurize a stream of vomit at a foe should it need to, though it is often loathe to do so as it is a waste of food. The throat pouch can be used for blood in a similar manner to a Honeypot ant, in that it is stored as food for later, often during long periods of inactivity when they slumber in their lair, for long journeys, or if they have taken on the occupation of "Blood Bank" among their coven of Vampires, and feed the others. Ahool are one of the least gluttonous of the vampire races usually, though it is not completely uncommon for one to still fall victim to it's endless hunger.
Ahool are intelligent and wear masks to blend in with other creatures. Though they stand taller than most, and like other Vampires, emerge during the night, they occasionally wrap themselves in their wings, don a mask, and use their claws like walking sticks and stroll through the night in attempts to lure in their prey, or collect supplies for whatever endeavors it requires. They, like other Vampires, are territorial, and often go to war with vampires of other species over victims.

The actual Ahool is a cryptid creature, which is basically a big bat with a monkey head that screams in the jungle. I kept this by using a Proboscis monkey head and a big vampiric monster body, and then added my own stuff to make it unique. As for the mask I used Indonesian masks as references.
Masks are a common thing among Vampires in my world.
