Description

This is a Mandurugo. A kind of Vampire, and one of the most monstrous kinds of vampire.

Mandurugo are vampires that always come in the shape of a woman with fair and beautiful features. As with any vampire this woman was most likely cursed in some way, either by hell, the Ungermaw, or a witch, or perhaps was bitten and survived the attack of another Mandurugo. In the case of the Mandurugo they could have also been transformed into one if they swam in leech infested waters that were in an area of black magic or a dead witch, or if a woman consumes a leech and denounces god and performs a dark ritual. The Mandurugo is a strange Vampire which takes the shape of a beautiful woman. This woman possesses sharpened teeth and dark eyes, and a supernatural beauty and charm. Often times these women possess somewhat voluptuous figures or rather fecund and motherly figures with a chubby belly and wide hips. This is because their lower half, from their stomach down to their genitals as well as their rear in the back, is replaced by a large leech like creature, and two pairs of arms that can curl and fold up into themselves like a party blower. These horrific feeding and hunting apparatuses begin at about the same length as the Mandurugo, and grow when well fed or when having survived for many years, and eventually cannot be hidden by clothing naturally and become enormous bloated protrusions, causing the Mandurugo to appear extremely fat or pregnant.

When infected, a woman will slowly begin to crave flesh and blood and nothing will satisfy her save for raw meat and blood. Her belly button will grow teeth and become impossibly deep, and she will begin secreting a slime like mucus from her body like sweat as well as suffer from hot flashes and bouts of fatigue. Eventually. She will gorge herself on whatever she can get and nothing will satisfy the hunger. Some women go insane with anger and rage at this point due to the hunger and end up killing and eating those close to her. The leech on her stomach will begin to grow and become more and more demanding with the food it wishes to eat as the leech mind of the Vampire melds with the host and they become an amalgamation. From her thighs and buttocks, the other limbs will begin to form and grow, large boneless arms with strange stinger like appendages at the tips of them that are used to capture enemies that may try to run, and can be especially helpful when the vampire has seduced someone and is currently in the act of making love, able to capture them and grip on with bladed fingers when they least expect it as the massive leech emerges. The claws can be used to pierce enemies flesh and make them bleed, giving a good scent to follow them if they get away. They can also be used to dig in to surfaces or pierce through objects. The Mandurugo uses it's massive leech like mouth to latch on to it's prey and immediately rotate it's mouth to cut through their flesh like a saw and drain out organs and blood, which it slurps up with it's huge, tooth lined mouth. Unlike other vampires, the Mandurugo drinks blood from it's enemies and also inhales and swallows their organs as well, leaving those it attacks as withered piles of skin and bone. Sometimes, if the Mandurugo has recently become impregnated, she will birth billions of leeches into the discarded flesh and allow it to arise as a creature known as a Leechwalker or Naglalakad na linta. Sometimes these leeches can also infect dogs and become infested hounds which work as familiars for the Mandurugo and are horrifying vampiric dogs with contorted forms. If the young is placed in a living creature it may become another Mandurugo, or a Strigoi. The Mandurugo possess the power to control leeches and worms, as well as other insects and creatures of the night such as dogs and wolves.

The Mandurugo are very dangerous creatures, just as most vampires, and tend to stick to high society where they can get away with far more, and many times will infiltrate towns and cities by marrying up and pretending to be their own offspring over the years. Those married to Mandurugo are usually slowly drained of blood and eventually consumed, though if the Mandurugo is particularly capable and successful in it's nightly meals it may be found out due to the growing leech half of it's body. Though they can easily disguise this form, their disguise wavers when they have become far too overindulgent. In fact the oldest legend of the Mandurugo is called "The girl with many Loves".

It tells of a young girl, the most beautiful in the land, who married at the age of sixteen. Her husband, a husky youth, withered away within a year. After his death she remarried, but her second husband, and then her third, suffered the same fate, all the while she grew more plump and full of life. Her fourth husband, having been warned, feigned sleep one night while keeping a knife close at hand. At midnight he felt a presence looming over him and then a prick in his neck. He stuck at the creature with his knife, and heard a screech and the flapping of wings. The next day, his bride was found dead near their house with a knife wound in her chest. She turned out to have been one of the Mandurugo.

Though many of the stories describe them as having wings in their monstrous form, this is not always true. This however, can be true as the Mandurugo's forelimbs can grow a large membrane, which allows them to take flight, a transformation which usually takes place when it's necessary. Many Mandurugo learn magic and can become dangerous witches, or began their life as one that had performed a ritual to become a Mandurugo. These witches are vindictive and they lay curses on their foes by making objects, such as rice, bones, or insects pour from the bodily orifices of those cursed.

Some Mandurugo become so separate from their humanoid form that when night falls and they hunt, they actually detach from their humanoid upper half and leave it behind as a corpse as they hunt, only to return and don it's disguise once more. The Mandurugo are rare in the modern day, but few may pop up from time to time. Many followers of the Ungermaw may follow a witch cult leader whom has become a Mandurugo, and avatars of the Ungermaw often take the shape of a Mandurugo as well. It is believed that the Cherokee legend of the Tlanusi, a massive leech the size of a house, may be related to the Mandurugo or one of their offspring, and the Leech Child born of Izanagi and Izanami in Shinto mythology is believed to be one of the first humans, tainted by chaos to become a mandurugo...

On Urth, Mandurugo still exist, and just as with many of the vampires, they tend to work together in dark, hidden societies. Many vampires tend to wage wars against one another rather than against other species and races, and that is much the same with Mandurugo, whom have allied themselves mostly with the Pishtaco.

I couldn't get the image of a young girl with a leech for a lower half out of my mind and so I thought it was finally time to draw one of these vampires! There are quite a few now! I'll make sure to keep posting vampires until all of them in this setting have been shown! We're still missing a few such as the Yara-ma-yha-who, Chupacabara, and the Nosferatu, but they'll arrive in time!
