Perspective view of the Kazellis light freighter Hyperion, our ship in the Star Wars RPG campaign I'm currently playing (as it was before we modified it).The motivation for this sketch was to start trying to figure out the 3D geometry of the ship (and then I went overboard with the detail). There's an official perspective image around but it does not match the shape of the top view we're currently using, so I think this is closer to an actual representation.
In the future I'll have to try drawing the ship from the front and also from below, we'll see how that goes…
Done with a 0.5 mm mechanical pencil with a grade 2B lead.

really because I thought the back of the ship was the front I didn't notice it until I looked at it more closely and the back of the ship really looks like the saucer section of the Enterprise or other Federation ship I suppose

yay! I remember this one.. I think I still have the campaign book it was in.
What I like about this one (which is why I remembered this ship in particular) that it would cast an amazing shadow.
I (back then ) evolved that ship so it would look like and be the symbol of the rebellion emblem.

In our case the modifications started to take the shape away from the Rebellion symbol, but it was something like 11 years before Yavin. Now we're around 4 years before Yavin and more involved with the growing rebellion, but the latests modifications were not so extensive. We'll see how things go
What's sure is that I still have to draw the ship from different orientations, however… I think a front view will be next.

Yeah I know. But if I were to do that, what I would want is the 3D model they make of the ship, so that I can render it in any situation or use it as reference por perspective drawings…
And I do want to draw it, though. Plus, before I commission a 3D model I'd want to figure out the geometry of the ship from the front and below, where would the boarding ramp and the landing gear go, and so on.

I don't think you do… In order to figure out the geometry and distribution of things I have to be discussing things with the GM, which is who photoshops an image of the ship to add the modifications we apply to it, and everything has to match in every version. Also, there are some problems with the inner distribution (regarding the boarding ramp) that I'll have to discuss with him. There's gonna be quite a bit of back and forth.
Plus, as I said before… the point of these drawings is that I enjoy our game and that inspires me to create art depicting our adventures. Suggesting that I just pay someone to do it for me kind of misses the point entirely, I'm afraid.
