Luz Noceda is the second-in-command of the New Stars of Mewni. Formed from the Old Stars during the events of “Injustice: Stars of Mewni”, Luz replaced Steven Universe as the Star of Courage but switched with Star Butterfly afterwards and became the new Star of Love.

After escaping The Collector’s nightmare illusion where she was tortured mentally and physically wounded and beaten by her friends, mother and girlfriend; Luz was freed and reunited with Eda, King and the Fellowship. While Eda and King stay to continue showing the Collector around the Boiling Isles to learn about the meaning of life, Luz and her Fellowship allies discover the puppet forms of everyone on the Isles including Lilith, Steve, Camila and her friends, with no way to help them, Anne convinces Luz to leave them in order to go to Earth and fight Andrias and his Disney Multiverse villain allies. Luz was scarred mentally by the image of Camila and Amity’s puppet form and was overwhelmed with more grief and resentment on herself.

During an encounter with Darcy Wu while rescuing some civilians in downtown Los Angeles, Darcy mocked Luz over her failure of protecting her loved ones from Belos and Collector and revealed that Raine was possessed by Belos the same way Hunter was possessed. Overcome with so much trauma, guilt, self-blame and anger, Luz partially unlocks an unknown magic buried inside of her.

This Partially Unlocked Form allowed Luz to supercharge her glyphs and cast spells like any other witch, also allowing her to teleport and move faster than light, but her magic is fueled by hatred and anger thereby causing it to become anti-magic, while she uses it anyone around her using either good or evil magic would become inert and when she screams she releases sonic vibrations in the air around her causing everyone to feel massive headache that feels like their mind is exploding. The pain is so severe the affected victim desires an end to their life just to make the pain stop.

According to Doctor Strange, Luz’s corrupted magic is a side effect of her tapping into the Dark Side.
