Description Phineas and Ferb - Charlene Doofenshmirtz

Not feeling too good, so I've mostly been resting today. Felt like working on something though. and since I felt like drawing women lately, for whatever reason, I decided to knock Charlene off my to-do list. I honestly like her character, so I wanted to do something nice for her.

You definitely did her justice! A side of her we've not seen in the show, and likely never will, being a kid's show and all. The filters really add to the mood of the picture.

You drew Charlene, quite well. You should draw a Doofenshmirtz Family Portrait.

Very nice! A very underlooked character, it's true.

Y;know, it's odd that Vanessa and Candace don't actually know each-other better. Sure, their paths have crossed- the most notable of those times being in 'Summer Belongs To You'- but Linda and Charlene both attend the same cooking class, and the way Linda once mentioned to Candace that Charlene was giving her a ride seems to hint that they are friends.

I think it's interesting that Doof doesn't actually talk about his ex-wife more. I wonder what their relationship was like- how did they meet, what made them fall in love and get married, how old was Vanessa when they divorced, etc.

Honestly? ...I think the thought of Charlene kinda hurts Doof. And since he has to see her/talk to her quite a bit, the pain is still to fresh to really talk about it. And I think he gets upset because he thinks of it as one of his biggest failures. Sure, they split up on good terms...But he had the perfect woman, he had the perfect family, I think it's natural for him to look back and wonder "what did I do wrong? How did it end up this way?" Romance has always been hard on him. Poor dear.

As for Candace and Vanessa...They're from two different circles. So they wouldn't really hang with each other. (LOL. It's funny...I was thinking about this JUST last night with Moonie. And I had a funny story idea where Doof bribes Candace into being Vanessa's friend so his daughter will stop being mad at him for scaring away all her other friends...On accident, naaaturally. But still, it happened. )

I wish they would've gone into more detail about why they split up, and who's idea it originally was. From what Charlene said about them wanting different things, I get the impression it was more-or-less a mutual decision. It is obvious that they parted on civil terms, and have no animosity towards each-other.

I get the feeling Doof allowed his "work" to take up too much of his time, and Charlene (though having no idea what he was really up to, obviously) told him that she just felt like he wasn't a part of the family anymore. She probably told him that he was going to have to choose what was more important to him... and I also get the feeling that he thought she was a terrible nag, going on a couple eps, lol.

Buuut, he still keeps her picture on his wall and she still kept his name. I think there's no real hard feelings between them. But I wonder if Doof regrets choosing evil over his own family...

I also got that impression. Especially when Vanessa was singing about her dad in the Mary Mcguffin ep. There was a part when Doof was down the hall from her room and it blew up. Could have been the door to the garage or down to the basement where he would have invented all day. And I can see Doof as seeing the simplist things as nagging. Like he did when he went on a date with Linda and she reasonable complained about how she had to sit with his laundry. He pretty much sees anyone who doesn't agree with him as "naggers" lol.

But yeah, I also can see Doof slightly resenting that Charlene made him choose between his inators and his family. That would be like Moonie telling me I'd have to choose between her and my art....Which I honestly don't know if I could do...

I think Doof would regret it, in many different senses. I think splitting up in all different kinds of relationships make you wonder what you did wrong. And he seems to naturally have a "the grass is always greener" mentality. I think even if he DID choose his family over inventing/evil, he'd still be miserable.

Also, it may be why he was so happy when he met that girl in 'Chez Platypus'. Not only did he feel like she was truly 'the one' because she was the only woman he's ever met that shares his evil viewpoint, but if he were to settle down with her, he wouldn't ever feel like he was living a double life; he wouldn't ever have to try to juggle her (and any kids they might've had) and his personal life of evil.

I also think that the guilt he feels over betraying/leaving Vanessa and her mom is part of why he tries so hard to include Vanessa in that world of his. It isn't *entirely* so much that he wants her to follow in his footsteps, but he feels that this way he is equally incorporating his role as a father and his role as an evil scientist.

You know, the Mary McGuffin ep was pretty much evident that she was still a teenager when they got divorced. Interesting. Pretty recent, then.

You have a good point about him feeling a bit resentful towards Charlene for 'forcing' him to choose between his work and his family. I like to think that Doof has always felt terrible guilt because the choice *was* his to make, and yet that stubborn part of him pins the blame on Charlene for breaking up their family.

Thank you. Yeeeah, I tried looking up fanart of her...I mostly found porn of her....Not that I'm complaining...except for the Charlene/Vanessa porn. I'mma gonna complain about THAT. But It's just sad,ya know? She's honestly one of the nicest ex's I've EVER seen. You'd think they'd give her more love for that.

Oh well, that just means us fans will have to take care of it.
