Description Well, I haven't submitted anything in a very long time, and after reading 's newest RM chapter, I suddenly recalled that after watching Yeston/Kopit's TV series on youtube, I became utterly obsessed for a little while there and drew up the whole picnic scene later that day in the car. This was about... erm... a year or two ago, i'm not sure, so the drawings aren't the best...
BUT i managed to wipe the dust off of these jewels hidden away in my scraps and memories. I just thought i'd show you guys... it's pretty cute.

Sorry, i didn't want to upload the ENTIRE comic... just the cutest parts. So it really isn't the scene word for word AT ALL. I shortened it... quite a bit. But you get the idea.

Go watch this series! You'll find it very touching! Here's links to the TV series on youtube:

Oh, and go read RM by IG.

I LOVED this movie. He was a sweet phantom, DEFINITELY one of my favourite
Though... I always found this scene a bit... creepy (and I think Christine too). I hated those stuffed animals...
But ohh, Charles Dance... those EYES! That VOICE! That adorable "WTF" face when Christine hugged him...

*late comment* me too. He's one of the few who I think deserved Christine!!

ACK!! I know! Wasn't Erik completely DARLING? So sweet and charming and well mannered!

And we can't forget that voice now, can we? For most of the series I was torn between wanting to give him a rubber ducky to watch him play with it- AAHHHH, THAT JUST ENVOKED CUTENESS!! *sits and coos and giggles over Erik*

I think that with all the word play going on, (apt to what?) the line "I do! Very much..." could have quite easily been followed with: "What sorts of things you wish for?"

This version of the phantom is so different than the others i hardly consider him in any references. But I do love the series for its own reasons. It is so very sweet.

I just watched this entire movie myself on youtube like you did...I absolutely ADORED it! ^.^ I love love love love love Charles Dance's personality as the phantom. It's so quirky yet sarcastic... I think i died with joy after the first half of watching him. He's definitely up there now with some of my favorites. I saw this before i watched it...This comic is actually the reason why i wanted to see it. Thanks so much! I enjoyed it very much and i couldn't imagine not experiencing it! This scene is beautifully done, great job!

I always thought that scene was a bit strange, none of the Phantoms had ever taken their Christines for a jolly picnic. But after reading this, I kind of get the idea.
You did this very well, that is probably why it makes the scene more memorable.

I watched the Kopit television series yesterday while it I had it sitting in my Youtube favorites waiting to be watched. This series really had some of of it's own qualities, and most parts of it are quite original.

Anyway, this comic is best, and every word here is word-for-word. That is awesome to recreate the events of the Phantom and his Christine.

thank you! I thought this was an especially strange scenario when I first watched it, but there came a revelation and now it's one of my absolute favorite Erik and Christine moments. I'm glad you like it, and I'm glad you've taken the time to watch the series. It's well worth your time!

ShadowDrakkon In reply to DarthxErik [2009-08-05 01:29:38 +0000 UTC]

Most welcome! The television series itself was wonderful (yet somehow humorous), I'd rather see it again for a change.
And I sit here thinking if Andrew Lloyd Webber's stage version was more worth seeing...most likely because it has more to do with the original than Yeston and Kopit's.
But I still claim that scene as a bit odd. Just that I was not used to seeing it very often in other versions...except for maybe Iron-Gibbet's. Saw that one.

I love dance!erik, and the scene is entirely adorable...(except for the obvious part, grrr) but with his odd and almost nonsensical dialogue you kind get the feeling he's still a child. Holy Ra! The part when he shows her his face...my eyes water in remebrance. And I had to stop watching at that point to go to bed, so that scene kept me up ALL night! How stupid (but blonde, yay!) Christine pulls the "if you love me..." act, how erik's hands trembled. How she fainted and he just groans and curls into a momentary fetal position. Er...did I just spoil that? Anyways- you should still watch it, for it is so much worse to actually watch! And hear...

Dance Erik does remind me of a child... he's so lovable!

Oh, I've watched it several times, and I actually own the dvd of it... could not resist after watching it on youtube... so you're not spoiling anything. It is quite a heart-wrenching scene. Poor, poor Erik.

Oh, I forgot to ask. Do you know of any other versions?
I've heard of/seen Lon Chaney, this one (obviously), the musical, the movie, and one freaky one where Erik takes the faces of his victims and uses them instead of masks, I think.

DarthxErik In reply to xXCourtney-HaleXx [2009-06-11 02:46:59 +0000 UTC]

okay... tsk tsk tsk. There's the Claude Rains one that's pretty good, came out in the 30's. There's also the cartoon version, which can be found on youtube. Just type "phantom cartoon version". And then there's a few other musical versions, this TV series has a musical to it! Just search "kopit phantom musical" or something like that on youtube, and you may find all the songs...

eww. the robert englund one sounds disgusting. There's a few other bad versions that I won't even mention...

I'm going to check out the Claude Rains one first I think.

yes, it's pretty good! (although the phantom is oldish, and the plot is pretty unconvincing... any phantom film is quite entertaining in the end!)
